Formation Change?

Recommended Posts

Ok, in my opinion, I believe we now have the players at the club to get into the play-offs. However they don’t seem to be linking up well enough to create goals. One goal in the last 3 games maybe backs that up.

I think maybe we should consider a formation change then. Personally, I think a diamond midfield could possibly work quite well with Saunders, McKimm, Bowry, and maybe Drury playing just in front of these three.

Ok, we would lose width playing this way, but from what I have seen from Watkins, he has a great cross on him at left back. Maybe he could provide that width getting forward on the left. Likewise, Protheroe has a good cross on him and could provide width getting forward down the right.

Just an idea, but what would you think about playing this system?

Cant see it with charlie still out. Unless we play Luke Moore.

For me , Sodje and Rawle get pulled so wide that a central midfield attack will be pointless.

Gooding is also appaling . Several times on Saturday he didnt want to take on the Scarboro left midfield and on two of those occassions , play returne dto the keeper and on one other , a cross the defence ball was the other.

Now I was told at school that the last thing you should do is pass across your defence. Or is that just too simple to be obvious.

Drury doesnt give 100% in my eyes. he does a lot of good stuff but at times he doesnt seem to wnat to challange for the ball. Ithink he still has plenty more to offer.

Maybe 1-11 we now have the players to get into the Playoff's but we don't yet have the strength in depth for a sustained challenge. This is highlighted by the absence of McDonald, which as you say has resulted in a goal drought.

For the last couple of games now, its become clear that any aspirations of the Playoff's is beyond us this season. For this reason echo your sentiments about a formation change - now is the time to experiment.

I'm not meaning to be critical but what's disappointed me about the last couple of games i.e. FGR and Scarborough is that the team seemed to play as if they were afraid to "lose" games. For a team with only an outside chance of playoff's we should have really gone at both teams from the start. Admittedly I only listened to the FGR internet commentary but it sounded to me that both teams were content with a point. Apologies if I'm wrong.

With nothing to play for in League games, I'd like to see Liam begin to experiment in games, with formations and starting with the likes of Luke Moore. Overall, I've felt Liam's done a pretty decent job, bringing in youger players that will only get better.

A bit of an overly concise, mikefleet-esque summing up, don't you think?

I agree with this though - we've had enough problems with width lately. Let's hope Jacko gets a starting berth on the left wing tonight.

There's still everything to play for in league matches, whilst the playoffs may now be just out of reach, (although a run of wins would put us back in there) there's still the target of our highest league placing since we came back to this level.

Even more importantly if we start to lose a few matches RR and WVN will be straight on here with their invetiable "I told you so" and "Daish out".

This is not really the time for experimentation, and to be honest there's not a lot of point as we don't yet know who we are going to sign next year. As far as I can tell, we have four players signed up for next year, so there could be a few changes.

Er.....we need to make changes to strengthen & progress....unless we have a few more Luke Moores & a couple of Theo Walcotts out there somewhere ?

So, if we have 4 players coming in in close season, what's your issue ?

Regards,

I can think of three definite ones - Ross, Charlie, James Smith. Who's the fourth one?

It's only three, I thought that Danny Slatter was on a two year contract, but looking back, I see that it is only one.

Still it's nice to hear that Mark Rawle would like to stay on, IMO he is the sort of player that we need to play alongside Charlie MacDonald.

I agree. He may not have set the world alight yet, but he hasn't been with us for very long.
His ability to hold the ball and allow midfielders (particularly wide men) to join the attack is invaluable. It's a shame Charlie has been out for so long, because I think they will compliment each other very well

I'm glad to see that despite being away from the forum that I'm still being mentioned in despatches and by the Great Mr Holden no less!

And, I feel totally honoured that he feels that one of the main reasons the team should continue to win matches is so that me and WVM don't start a "Daish Out" campaign.

It's nice to know that our opinions are held in such high estime !

Thank you Sir David.
