O/T They are at it again re:TC

New figures out for the "new" plans for the TC are showing £12m already. The plans havent been drawn up yet.Just how much will this second attempt cost before this one is built. I fear it will spiral in cost AGAIN in a similar way to that of the previous one.The original figure for the original design was £7m to begin with yet even after all the problems and wastage from before those that think they know better are making a similar mistake again.Extravagant costing, continued pie-in-the-sky ideas that will not benefit anyone.

Keep that cost down, build a TC centre in a more reasonable location on a smaller scale and people will accept it.

But at the rate these new costs are going to escalate again we,the people, are going to continue to be counting the costs AGAIN in our pockets.

Rate rises are imminent and they are to balance the books & to pay for their mistakes from previous. They are not to cover other services to the community. When will they ever learn?

The answer is THEY WONT. Pig headed idiots who know buggar-all but make out they do.Its a scandalous affair that continues I am afraid. Watch this space for future price hykes in due course. This second effort will cost as much as the first by the time the TC is ever built, wherever, whenever.

And there was me thinking all the hard work was done and dusted to get them to see sense.Seems the steam-rolling through of this project continues, and still, regardless of the cost.

They say this building is the start of the regeneration programme. Absolute Poppycock!

Youve hit on two issues here and tried to link them together. The Turner Contemporary and the TDC Budget dont go together. The 12 million is the figure Ive been hearing but thats the aim for the total project, which is fine. The plan was to spend 20 million pounds on a major regenerative scheme for the area (namely the Turner Contemporary) around the Old Town so its within their allocation.

The rate rises are not to fill in gaps, but to invest in community projects and other improvements in Thanet. Go to the TDC website and read the press release about it. It says how much will be spent in particular areas. If you dont think its happening then go to the Best Value section of the site and look at the Corporate Performance Packs which say whether TDC is meeting its performance targets.

Ive told you this before, cookie. TDC is not paying for the Turner Contemporary, KCC is. TDCs rate rises arent related to the Turner.

You fail to grasp,in truth James that KCC money IS our money. Its filterd down to the KCC from our rates. No need to be a political buff to know that.As for the budget, you are deluding yourself if you think for one minute that the rise in the rates arent to counter balance expenditure already made in favour of the TC. Be it TDC or KCC they have to claw it back somehow so what better way of doing so than by hitting us hard in our pockets. It dosent matter what slant you put on it that is whats happening. As far as the £12m goes can you GUARANTEE there wont be added expenses rising to a figure well above this before the TC is built. With the past expenses I fail to see how you can convince me or anyone that costs wont rise again. You know they will, so to say the £12m is going to be the top figure is astoundingly inaccurate.

KCC ARE involve with this and because we contribute to the TDC & the TDC give money to the KCC then be assured WE are paying towards it, of that there is no doubt.

It has been proved in the past that this council canot spend correctly and one way or another they are lacking in funds. There lies the rises in council tax bills. Yes,they are SUPPOSED to be used for local services but again can you GUARANTEE that ALL this money will be used on services to the community. I doubt that you can,& if you can, then again you are very much mistaken.

We will see what happens in the near future once the plans have finally been drawn up but if past local opinions & feelings about this project repeat themselves then the outcome will be the same I fear. Rising costs as before. They are my personal thoughts on this and I am confident that the outcome will be as mentioned.

If KCC have money to spend it would be better to build a brand new swimming pool and facilities at Hartsdown or an ice rink. Think someone said this in the Gazette. At least then people from outside the area would visit because we would have the beach AND something else to offer. I can't see too many people getting excited by an art centre. Most people who go to a seaside town bring their kids and I doubt they would want to be dragged round the TC.
