Should we need Lee?

I've read many posts on here saying that we are missing Lee and I agree 100% with those comments, but he hasn't scored every goal we have recorded this season. So just what has happened to the other members of the side who have put goals away this season?

If you look back you will see that Kezie had a short purple patch, Jeff Minton and Ben Sedgemore have recorded a few as well as Jason getting in on the act on several occasions. This in addition to one or two single efforts from various players.

We all know that Lee is important, and let's hope he is back very soon, but in the meantime, what has happened to the remaining goalscorers, why have they suddenly dried up? I could understand if, as I say, Lee had scored all of our goals, but surely somebody can re-create their early season goalscoring and put a few in the back of the net. I know it's easy for me to sit here and make these comments, but I'm just trying to say, you've scored before so let's see you do it again.

On a completely pesimistic note now, and slightly tounge in cheek, with Forest Green showing signs of improvement and today's news that Paul Merson is joining Tamworth, that just leaves us above Scarborough, Crawley and Southport. How important now is Saturday's game against Crawley. No pressure lads!!!

IMHO I don't think much has changed from last season and apart from the names we have similar problems.

Last season Ollie made up quite a proportion of our goals but has obviously moved on to warm the bench at Stevenage. However, Mintons success rate is greater this year than last.

Lee had a long injury spell last season and we are struggling with that again at the moment - I feel the difference with Lee is he has the ability to create his own opportunities which is something I don't feel about our other previous front men and some of the current players. That's probably why people keep banging on about him - the concern is you become a one trick pony and depend to heavily on an individual. Tait has been injured and Hallett is still on a steep learning curve.

I still feel the difference between the Ryman teams we had and the current Conference squad is that the players had a better understanding and created the opportunities for each other - we seem to struggle in the last third for movement and taking control - perhaps, again, midfield combinations in the past were stronger than what we currently have and they generated the pressure which created goal scoring opportunities.

I also feel, rightly or wrongly, that some of the tactical changes are still not perfect - something that also concerned people last season. I seem to remember that we were going to have a smaller squad this season and not having players in depth means other players get played out of position where they do a job but their performance is not as good. Unfortunately that needs more money and without continued success the crowds coming through the gate will not increase that revenue. I appreciate that injuries, who plays and where is sometimes dictated rather than having the choice to choose.

Like i say only my opinion but it is worrying that clubs such as FGR and Altrincham seem to be scraping results here and there and have brought some new players in.
