With this in mind would we be the first club in Britain and maybe even the world to be named after a place that doesn't actually exist?

Does Forest Green exist?
Queen of the South?
Albion Rovers?
Finn Harps
Home Farm
Bohemians
Olympiakos
Panathinaikos

Off the top of my head, I don't think we would be the first to be named after 'nowhere'.

Gravesend and Northfleet are my club of choice, not because of their name, or because I lived in Gravesham borough but because they were the nearest club to where I lived. I lived in Swanscombe, like a many of our current fans do, or their families originated from.

to be honest whilst I will defend the club at all times, the name itself Gravesend and Northfleet has always been a bug bear. I can't stand it, its too bloody long , too non league and it irks me that Gravesend gets top billing altho the grounds nowhere near it.

I am all for the change, and whilst I would not want to upset the local Ebbsfleet FC team. This name is perfect for us.

It accurately describes the location of our current ground, and our future ground. It will be a name that everyone will soon be aware of with the International station opening, and will be the name of a new modern forward thinking town on the clubs doorstep.

Many people will be using Ebbsfleet station from the surrounding areas in years to come, and thus would unite under its name. I would not be able to unite behind any name like Gravesham Borough, and would have thought that should be avoided at all costs.

One advantage of Ebbsfleet is that we could still affectionately be known as 'The Fleet' , which would mean a lot.

It is something that I dont say lightly as regards to where football is concerned I am a bit of a traditionalist but I think this is an ideal time for the club to take the plunge.

In that case they will have to change the overhead gantry signs on the A2 Busta.

Add Arsenal to the list of non existent town areas.

I like this thread, Drama and petulance all the way. Great fun.

having checked the web site it does look like the station is called Dartford international, but i am positive a campaign was run by the Reporter and Eurostar stated that it will be called Ebbsfleet. But There again go to here and its Ebbsfleet so take your pick http://www.lcrhq.co.uk/

EBBSFLEET INTERNATIONAL

Situated near Dartford, Ebbsfleet International will open up new travel opportunities for people living in north Kent, and it will dramatically stimulate local development. In 2007, it will take just 17 minutes to get to central London and under two hours to get to Paris.

But ultimately, this is a story of increased international footfall acting as the glue to regenerate and meld together the entire Kent Thameside conurbation. The station will be at the very heart of business developments in the area, and will provide major new employment opportunities.

Key travel benefits:

At Ebbsfleet International, a new connecting line links the CTRL with the existing North Kent Line. This will provide the opportunity for new domestic services serving Gravesend and the Medway towns to access the high speed line.

Typical journey times are anticipated to be Gravesend to London in 20 minutes, (rather than 50 minutes now), and a new 17 minute journey from Kent Thameside into St Pancras in central London.

Close to the M2 and M25 motorways, the station will offer park-and-ride facilities for up to 9,000 vehicles and major road improvements are being carried out in the area as part of the CTRL project.

It's the name of a destination on the bus to the ground from Stroud station, if that counts.

If someone will give us money under one name but not under another it makes sense to change the name.

The point I'm making, though, is that it seems unlikely to me that a name change would make much of a difference in persuading businesses to invest in us. If this is the case, the argument about the club's name becomes irrelevant.

It's also interesting to note that some people in this thread who are advocating a name change if advantageous to the club financially were in fact happy to ridicule WVN when he first suggested the idea a few months back.

I for one have had my differences of opinion with, WVN, but he has invariably backed his ideas with some good reasons. Although this appears to be a very radical idea, there is certainly some merit in it, and it is not one that should be cast aside without a second thought.

Which is what Brian and his board no doubt will do.

Keep up the ideas WVN. I may not always agree with you, and I will tell you so, but boring you ain't, and to be honest, this forum woiuld be a far worse place without such good debate.

Busta that website you mentioned.

The speed and quality of international and domestic services at Ebbsfleet International Station will encourage local economic development.

London and Continental Stations and Property (LCSP) is working closely with Land Securities who are promoting the development of Ebbsfleet City , a sustainable new settlement around the new international station. Planning consent has been granted for an 8.5 million sq ft mixed-use scheme on the site.

Hmmmm..... Ebbsfleet City, anybody?

As for the name of the station, we'll wait and see.

CG your comments are appreciated.

I fully accept that not everyone will agree with my opinions, all of the time. Yes some may cause an adverse reaction, but isn't that the point of debate. Anyway wouldn't life be a boring place if everyone did agree with each other.

I can assure you that I ain't going anywhere, so will contribute to any discussions/points that are raised on this forum, in my own way. If that continues to upset some people then quite frankly...tough. You can however be assured though, any comment I make/raise will always be in the best interest of Gravesend and Northfleet Football Club.
