Want to become big then perhaps the club needs to think big.
Sounds to me like Brian and the board are.

More importantly, however, are the board likely to fund a few of those Star Trek outfits as sported by Brian on the front of the Reporter? They might be a bit chilly on a Tuesday night in Halifax, not to mention the likelihood of getting your head kicked in wearing tight-fitting red pyjamas in Aldershot, but I'll admit it's forward-looking.

Which one's the Klingon though?

So WVN you don't like the current name but then you don't like the one it could be changed to.

I have never said that I don't like the current name. What I have said is that the club needs to attract new supporters/backers if it is to sustain a viable challenge for promotion into the Football League, it therefore needs to re-invent itself, change/improve its image etc. As part of that strategy, one element that is worthy of consideration is a possible name change, to one that continues to have links with the town the club represents, ie Gravesham. (hence the suggestion Gravesham Borough). The suggested name Ebbsfleet has little or no connection with either Gravesend or Northfleet, other than it was once a river that ran through the western end of Northfleet. Infact the area now called Ebbsfleet is and will probably always be in the Borough of Dartford.(That is until the whole of North Kent effectively becomes part of an extended London)

I have made my position very clear, I am all for a name change, if and only if any research that was carried out suggested that it would assist with the long term future of the club, ie bring-in new support and/or investment. But that name must, in my view, continue to have links with the town.

I am sure you understand where I am coming from Harry, but once again you try to put words into peoples mouths or put a slant on what has been entered on the forum in a vague and poor attempt to be humerous. This is an important subject, which deserves serious debate. Something that it would appear that you are incapable of.

Your right about one thing, it does indeed need serious debate. That is unfortunatly where you being right about things ends.

Puting words into peoples mouths is not my intention, and puting a slant on things when was the last time you did anything but put a negative slant on something. Pot kettle black there I think.

You don't like the current set up, this much is clear, have you made your feelings known to the football club? Or do you just take cowardly digs at them on here?

If I have something to say about the way they do something, I let them know about it. Where does it say on here that every discussion, if any, has to be serious? Everything I say is allowed to be a joke. I'll debate it sure, but not with cowards like you through this message board where for all I know your Paul Scally. If I let my feelings be known to anyone it'll be to the faces of the people that matter.

I dont necessarily agree with all of what you say at times WVN.

BUT

I agree totally with your comments about Harry's flippant attitude when there is a serious subject to discuss. Harry, sometimes its better to shut up rather than talk b*****ks, just for the Hell of it. I dont wish to cause you particular offence, but your comments can at times be best described as "tedious."

As far as this subject is concerned? I haven't got a particular view either way. Gravesend & Northfleet is the result of a merger in the not too distant past so I can't see how a simple name change will do too much harm.

No offence taken Andy, I do know what you mean but I guess it's just a difference of oppinion. Like I say those people that matter get to hear what I have to say so nothing else is important. I also know that people think I can be a bit tedius but I am doing this for free you know.

Harry, you have just re-inforced my comments about you.

Nothing further to be added!

In what way is changing the club's name to Gravesham Borough going to attract new sponsors? Please explain. If we changed our name right now, we would still be a club at the fifth level of English football, with the same dilapidated but charming stadium, and the same attendances. Surely these are more important factors for a business to take into consideration when deciding whether or not to sponsor us?

At no time have I ever said that a name change alone will attract new investers or supporters.

What I have said and will continue to believe is that if the club wants to attract much needed new investers and supporters an image change is required. A number of things could well contribute to that image change, obviously the most important of which is the possible move to a new stadium. Another element could well be a name change.

It would be plain crazy to think that a name change alone is going to make one single iota of difference to where the club is at the moment, what I am suggesting however is that if it was included in a package of changes, it just might make a positive difference?

If after research a name change proved to be one element of many that might contribute positively towards improving the clubs image, I maintain that the name must maintain a visible link to the town that the club represents. Therefore one option could well be Gravesham Borough.

Okay sorry if I offended you.

--------------------------------------------------

Back on topic it appears that nobody actually knows where Ebbsfleet is, am I correct? However are we all in agreement that it was once a river? The reason I ask is that some bloke on Confguide seems to assume that there is no such place and that the ground itself is not in Northfleet.

Not that it matters a jot but if you ask a taxi driver to take you to the football ground in Northfleet you'll end up at Stonebridge Road. Add to that I know it is in Northfleet because I've been there.

With this in mind would we be the first club in Britain and maybe even the world to be named after a place that doesn't actually exist? I read in the report that said something like "Ebbsfleet could one day become a new city”. Would that have all come about because of us? That'll be a story to tell.

If it was a new city that would mean building a new University and Cathedral right?

It is all very confusing, where does one town end and another begin? Is there a graffiti stained sign saying you are now entering Gravesend, Northfleet or even Ebbsfleet?

Still very much undecided on the whole thing and just can't see why we should change our name. I see what you’re saying WVN about the re-branding thing but how far are you willing to take things? Will you go as far as Total Network Solutions?

Money = success
No money = failure

If someone will give us money under one name but not under another it makes sense to change the name.

There you go, better informed but none the wiser.
