just thought you might be interested in having a read, sorry if you dont...

As we prepare for our first ever F.A. Challenge Trophy Quarter Final trip to Worksop Town, I would like to speak of our progress on and off the field this Season. I have many people to thank and will try my best to fit it all in over a couple of pages.

The credit must be collective… our main sponsor Cardif Pinnacle, The coverage from the Borehamwood and Elstree Times and all our local Sponsors and Shop Keepers have supported what we’ve tried to achieve this Season.

Hertswood School have embraced our PASE Scheme and it has in turn allowed home grown talent to flourish.

The Local Council and Football Foundation backed us to improve our training facilities; which has improved our whole Squad and the Club in general.

Two of my old First Team Managers have returned to the Club in Ian Allinson and Micky Engwell. Both believed in the Football Club. They have remained supportive and deserve the success that is coming their way.

The other Backroom and Office Staff, have worked tirelessly and are now being rewarded for their efforts.

Manager Steve Cook has galvanised the Dressing Room in a very quiet way. He has developed our playing system, imposed his work ethos on the players and has got the whole Club believing the impossible is possible.

Our players are now are a mixture of experience and youth. In a Squad of twenty-one we have eight players from Borehamwood. It is something I believed in and is unheard of at our level. So our Youth structure and Coaches are by definition very successful.

There are many other reasons for the feel good factor, here are just a few of which I am sure you share my pride….

We have the mental toughness, honesty and camaraderie around the Club to push each other to the limit… we are the highest goal scorers in the Conference, Southern and Isthmian Football Leagues… we have the best defensive record in the Southern Eastern Division, we have lost fewer games than anyone in senior Non-League football. We’ve knocked out Crawley Town and Gravesend & Northfleet (two Nationwide Football Conference Sides) in our F.A. Challenge Trophy adventure. Not by nicking a goal and holding on, but by being better on the day than the pair of them.

In both those games we’ve also had our twelfth man… our Supporters. They helped us against Gravesend & Northfleet without a doubt, but the support they gave us at Crawley Town, turned an away game into a home tie. The jubilation of the players and Supporters celebrating that victory is a mental picture that will remain with me for a very long time. I’m a local man, whose father Managed the Club so that was very, very special.

I’m not silly, I know our Cup crowd only turn up for the big games. I also know it’s the people who turn up week in week out, who ultimately deserve my biggest thanks (but the Cup Supporters do make a big difference!!).

We now travel to Worksop Town for a place in the Semis of the Trophy. They are two Divisions and thirty places above us. Like in the previous Rounds we are massive underdogs. We will endeavour to represent you all and our Town to the best of our ability. Having never been to this stage we are entering the unknown in regards of experience, but we’re going to enjoy the occasion.

We hope you the Supporters travel in numbers, if you make yourselves heard we will try to give you the performance you deserve! We’re fully aware we will never have this opportunity again, so we are desperate to succeed. It is equally important to remind everyone that if it doesn’t go our way we must accept our loss with good grace. The good people of Worksop, every player on both sides and both sets of Supporters should be treated with respect… that is so important and I can’t emphasise that enough!!

Anyway as I said at the start of this article, what we’re achieving is collective, in all aspects of the Club we’re proving successful. What you have given me in support is immense and who knows what we can achieve together?? I thank you all and long may our progress continue.

Danny Hunter, Chairman.
