Some one said that Gary Hill was there last night, if he was then I don't think he would have seen anything that would have really troubled him. If we play like we did last night when we go down to Weymouth we'll get hammered. We completely capitulated in the second half, especially when Thurrock went down to 10 men. I know I can't expect a 5-0 thriller every game, but we can play better than that. Some of the passing was atrocious. I win is a win though, and it means that we are now top of the league (come on Weston!) Can't complain too much! :-) Hope the game is on on Saturday!

It was all down to the pitch, mate!

And yes, Garry Hill was at the Fortress last night.

And yes, that was one very strange game indeed.

I agree with the comments made but some credit should be given to Glen Knight, the Thurrock keeper, who made a host of fine saves.

Thurrock were awful, especially the grand old man, Jummy Mcfarlane.

A game that should have finished with a 6 goal margin ended up with us hanging on. However look at it from a positive view. We're not playing well, other than in flashes, but still winning most of our games. If we up our game during the run in who knows what might happen. Stay positive! Think of the many other club's fans who would relish being in our position.

Well said, Alban. Says a lot for us, when we have not been firing on all cylinders over the last few games but have still managed to pull in the points.

It was a very strange game last night.

Thurrock came with a physical approach, to close down space, and restrict our opportunities to play our passing game. They succeeded in large measure, but they were clearly lacking in confidence in their own area.

Interestingly, when they were reduced to 10 men, they dispensed with the physical stuff and began to play some decent football.

A combination of the relative success of their game plan and us not firing on all cylinders kept the score to 2. When we scored our third, five looked comfortably on and we were again beginning to defend from the half-way line. But then, for a period of 25 minutes or so, we completely lost our shape from the midfield backwards. At times we had 6 or 7 strung across the edge of the area and when we did clear the thing, nobody moved! Paul Bastock and Ben Lewis, if they lead the back 4, must have been having apoplexy. Colin and Nick must have thrown one or two tea-cups in the changing-room afterwards.

When we did attack in the last period of the game, the wrong option was taken on two or three clear occasions when a pass would certainly have led to, if not a certain goal, a clearer goal-scoring opportunity.

That game is one to 'put away in the cupboard' in the certain knowledge that we wont fall apart like that ever again. If, as I believe to be the case, we have gone through a 'blip' for the past 3 games, a return of 9 goals and 6 points from that 'blip' is entirely acceptable.

This team has not become a bad one overnight, and as Rob2 said, there will be games that will not be to all our liking. Last night was one.

Simon Martin worked his socks off last night and was my MotM by a comfortable margin. Ben's goal was a peach. he showed some serious pace last night and, if I'm not mistaken, he has lost a couple of pounds. 12 more go, and the boy will be able to fly.

And no, I can't resist it, for the benefit of one or two of my friends, in the spirit of brotherhood that unites Saintsfans everywhere. That performance last night was nothing, whatsoever, in any way, shape or form, to do with the pitch.
