Stevenage tomorrow

Staying-up

Recommended Posts

Agree - Stevenage seem to have a nice little set up and the stadium seems very nice.

Hats off to Ollie last night who after a fair bit of baiting didn't seem to bite - Miller on the other hand.........

Can't really put my finger on where we are going wrong without putting a stupid blanket comment of "we just aren't good or consistent enough"

Felt Ibe worked extremely hard last night - showed great control of the ball but with his back to goal and a defender up his [****!!****] it was always going to be difficult.

Greggors again acquitted himself well with some nice simple touches - but the understanding he has with Lee doesn't appear to be there with Ibe. Tait looked like he was up for it when he finally came on after Clarke became the first sub used.

Keeling had a good night and constantly threatened the Boro defence - Mario seemed to have a good game as well. All in all it wasn't a bad performance from the lads but it just didn't "happen"

Felt we made the same old mistakes with the odd poor pass, free kicks taken to quickly and not closing players down - but Stevenage were worth their win but the score line doesn't perhaps how hard most of the players worked. First goal came from a throw in whilst Mario and I think Chenners were marking the guy on the line neither of them chased the player down with the ball (Pepertuini) who calmly lined up his cross and picked out the head of Mammria who were now all running into the box. Second goal was a one on one with Louis and Dolan, who had just come on, both going for the crossed ball - Louis won

Crawley is going to be a tough game - especially with it now being a bit of a six pointer - but we did show a bit of heart last night from a number of players that I hope and trust will keep us in good stead. However, if we want to better ourselves in this league, this season and hopefully next, then there is a lot of work ahead for Jeff and Glenn.......

I think that the one statement "not consistent enough" just about sums us up.

Reading through many comments over a number of games you will see things such as-

Mario didn't play well, only to be followed a couple of games later by Mario was my man of the match.

Maybe, Ibe was lazy tonight followed games later by Ibe had a tremendous work rate and deserved to score.

Or how about Chenners had a pig of a game followed later by great defending by Chenners, definitely my star player.

(Note: names are immaterial,I've just picked a few at random, it's the point that I'm trying to put over that matters)

My point is that much as the players try their hardest in each game they just don't seem to be able to produce a top performance from ALL of them at the same time. For every one player suddenly on top form there is another that dips and with the sort of opposition we are playing we cannot afford not to be on top form all the time.

If Jeff had a crystal ball to know who was in good form for any one game maybe the title would be a foregone conclusion, but until that time............................

Crawley, Scarborough and Alty are going to be extremely important in deciding where we end up at the end of the season.

We also have Tamworth and Forest Green before a run of difficult games to end the season particularly Exeter and Halifax.

We still have quite a few games to play and I still feel we have the potential to pull ourselves clear of any trouble - but then again I said that last season even predicting 3 points from our away game at Leigh RMI - how wrong was I.

I think what guts me the most is that I hoped (and felt it was achieveable)a top 10 spot when we were in an upper mid table position only to see it disintegrate since January after doing a fine double over Grays
