Stats prove, once again, that we score from a high percentage of the clear chances we create but we don't get enough shots in despite our play.

In the bar area at PowerLeague in Slough there's a newspaper from the day after England won the World Cup in '66. It shows the stats from the game and just to show how football has changed, Germany had 37 shots at goal and England 45!

 

Contrast that with today where the teams mustered 22 between them.

Good highlights, Gaz. Things that stand out.....Chopper had no right to score that goal from there. A brilliant finish. Wealdstone's second was also a good finish although of our own making.

 

Also, Roy managed to mess the name up of the most talked about non-league player in recent weeks, referring to him at half time as Jeremy Beckford! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

but in 66 ian,that game went to extra time i recall.

I'm aware of that, but extra time only represents a one third increase in the playing time. If you pro-rata that to our game yesterday there would have been around 30 shots at goal over 120 minutes as opposed to the 82 that there were in '66.

quality not quantity therefore,5 goals in 30 shots(16%)against 6 goals in 82 shots(7%).if we had 82 shots we could see a 13 goal thriller on that ratio?Now that would be a problem for Roy on the mic.
