Cambridge City FC: RIP?

AFF

Recommended Posts

The following post has just appeared on the CONFSouth message board. Whilst clearly preliminary and something more formal should follow, this can be considered to be a good source:

"Todays open board meeting has revealed that Cambridge City chairman Arthur Eastham does plan to disband the first team at the end of this season and move to the Abbey Stadium. The clubs reserve team would then act as a reserve team for Cambridge United under the name of Cambridge City.

On the news that it is highly unlikly that Cambridge City FC will not be playing Conference South football next season one of the four elected supporters to attend the meeting has walked out in disgust.

More to follow..........."

It looks pretty grim to me.

Hmmm... let's hope it doesn't come to that, though I can't see too many viable alternatives. Ground share at CP? Everyone else plays there so why not, I think 11 am on Thursdays are free... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

If they could just carry on until they've been beaten by Weymouth for the second time and then disband that would be nice too, we'd be six points closer.

Hmmmnnn.

Put very simply, we were suspended from the League 4 years ago when the Ryman sought assurances from the club that we would be able to fulfil our fixtures. That was polite language for "Can you pay the wages until the end of the season, and if so, back that up with a personal guarantee."

Suitable assurances 'could nt be given' and we were suspended. [This is not a moment for a lenghty debate with the yet to formed "Harding was misunderstood" Fan Club.]

The Conference must be asking the same question of the board of Cambridge City and it seems to me that they might be able to give assurances but why should they? If the club is making a net loss of so many hundreds of pounds per week, and there are 10 weeks or so of the season to come, why not stop now?

Please understand that I'm not encouraging this. I feel dreadfully for the fans of CCFC, but it does look pretty grim to me.

Incidentally. Had we been thrown out of the League for good in 2001, all our results from the fixtures that had been completed would have been expunged from the records. ['Expunged'. There's another word to add to my 'horrible list']

There is a 'players statement' from Farnborough on the ConfSouth board to the effect that several of them haven't been paid, nor the manager and his staff.
