Warren and Tescos!

Warren...Something tells me that you will be one of the leading lights in this "anti-tesco" web site that I read about in today's Torygraph

I'm so sure of it that,if you aint....I'll buy you a pint next time I make it to the Park (oh how I wish)..mind you, with my present failure rate for making a game we may well be back there before I get to another Rebels game!!

What's wrong with Tesco's? Or, more specifically, what's wrong with people?! If you don't like Tesco, don't bloody shop there. If you like small, independent shops that offer you something Tesco does not, then use them.

I can't stand the new Tesco so I don't go there. It's that simple. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

The problem is that they have taken over much of Slough. Coming from the Langley direction you now have small stores on Paurlant Road and London Road. There is also a small store on the Uxbridge Road. You then have the huge store in the centre of Slough which has already seen the end of the Co-op. The nearest alternative supermarket is then in Cippenham - I think. Try finding small independent shops with what you want to buy. Due to Tesco's domination of the area many are out of business and others are having to reduce their stock and limit their selection in an effort to stay competitive. The decision to allow a Tesco of that size to be built in that location in the centre of Slough was a scandal.

Unfortunately a similar scenario is happening nationwide. Joe Public will only actually start to care if Tesco hike their prices and then they will realise there is no competition.

And there endeth my Tesco's rant.

The Co-op made a strategic decision to withdraw from the large supermarket field a few years back, so its nothing to do with Tesco's. Langley does have a Budgen's, and a small Co-op (Trelawney Ave).

I dislike the new Tesco's too, and no longer shop there, but if others want to, thats their choice.

Nothing to do with the website but good luck to them.

Yesterday a recent report from MP's said in 15 years there would be no independant small shops left cos the big supermarkets would have put them out of business - they will then rise their prices cos there will be no competition. This already happens in one place in Scotland (Dumferline i think), where Tescos account for 50% of all shopping - and their petrol prices are more expensive than other towns.

My mate went to a smallish Welsh town recently - and there were no shops apart from Tescos.

They screw farmers, they bully councils etc

If only it was as easy as just don't go there!

I propose we go to the Licensesd Vituallers Tescos one night and bulldoze it down and start to rebuild a football stadium there, where it should be in the heart of a community.

One flaw in your plan Warren...whilst the LV site is in the heart of the town, it is not really in the heart of the community (or at least not the community which provides the support for a local football team)..I think there are much more suitable "community" sites for a ground in Slough, based around predominantly white..oops..I mean caucasion (spelling?) working class (whatever the f' THAT means) geezers!.....how about Britwell? Now there's a thought!

ps...don't get too worried by the conspiracy theories!

pps It is still all about personal choice.

ppps...I owe you a pint!
