It was suggested yesterday that the club could try and organise a sportsmans evening. I for one would definately attend if it was organised. I have tried to get some prices but they are given on request. Bob Bevan is one of the best for example. I would like to see it as a dinner evening somewhere like the winter gardens. What are other peoples thoughts? It would be a lot of work but I think it would work.

On the same issue I noticed in the last programme that not all the match sponsorships had been taken up. What if MISA sold raffle tickets with the prize being the match sponsor. MISA would be the sponsor but there would be either 10 individual winners who would get the hospitality or 5 winners who could take a partner/friend. again I would definately buy tickets for that and it would ensure a sponsor for a home match. What are peoples thoughts on that? I will put in writing, as a suggestion, for the next MISA meeting if there is interest.

The problem with the clubhouse is size. How many people can we get in there? To get a decent speaker you need a lot people to attend. I have already made some enquiries as to cost and am awaiting a reply. The cheapest speaker comes in at £800.00.

Ok so allowed £1000 for a speaker. If you charged £20 a head you would need 50 people to cover the cost of the speaker. So add the cost of the meal on top you will probably need about 70 people at £20 a head to cover the cost of a £1000 speaker + meal. I would think there would be room for 100 people in the clubhouse if done correctly. Then to raise more funds there can be a raffle and such from there. Of course it's guesswork but something the MISA could look into I hope.

MS just to clarify I think Winter Gdns would be very good but I don't know if we could get enough people in there to cover hire of venue which would probably be quite a bit, on top of the meal and speaker costs. Obviously in a few months time the Winter Gdns might have to be considered when the clubhouse is knocked down but I would be interested in knowing how many the new years do catered for and how much space was left that could be made use of. Once we get the new stadium especially I would hope these sportsmans evening would be a regular thing with the banqueting facilities on offer as there is money to be made.

[color:"blue"]Does it have to be a formal dinner? Looking at the D*ver site they had a local comedian (Jim?) followed by a Peter Taylor Q&A session in their bar/clubhouse & raised in the region of £1500.

One of the earlier names mentioned was big Nev, who is a local guy & despite being an ex D*ver Manager must have a few good tales to tell. Maybe CK has some contacts who he could invite .. someone like Martin Allen who 'owes us one' after 'stealing' Sam Sodje on a free.

Cookie Bob "The cat" Bevan is the country's leading sports Guest speaker. Apparently he is hilarious. For those interested he costs £3500 a night. Peter osgood comes in at £1200, which is about the average. I have contacted the winter gardens also and am awaiting a reply. However I do not want to tread on the toes of MISA, and so all enquiries have been a on a personal basis. I think the cost, with a meal, would be less than £50.00 per head based on 200.

The most logical venue IMO would be the Pfizer social club. This would help with the sale of tickets and would probally cost a lot less than Winter Gardens.

I must admit I have benn to both of 'The Cats' dinners (Bob Bevan and Tuffers) and although expensive nights very enjoyable.

[color:"blue"]The aforementioned Peter Taylor night @ D*ver included a 'bar meal'(soup in a basket? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />) & cost £15 a head, which is a bit more realistic for bringing in the crowds.
