If smoking was about choice no smoker would choose to smoke. It is an addiction and only smokers understand that.

I would have chosen. I chose to spend all my school dinner money on fags, all my pocket money (I looked cool! but poor) and then when I started working I still chose to smoke. I even carried on until I was 33 before I kicked the habit.

I still fancy a fag every now and then. Our house is now smoke free and is better for it.

Like any addiction it's not only yourself that you are harming but everyone around you.

agree but as I said if you had "real" choice you could stop now, it's the Physcological addiction that get's you as much as the chemical.

All smokers need to read Allen Carrs Easyway.

Turns everything on it's head and by the time you finish the book you quit - no withdrawl or anything,

I gave up reading half way through because I knew I would quit and didn't feel ready, gonna read it again before pre season give it a bash can't do any harm.

Being a moderate thinker I think smokers should be made too eat the contents of their ashtrays. Then have lighted cigarettes stuck up all available orifices, and let them burn down until they disappear.

As the lepers of the modern world they should all be rounded up and be put in a smokers concentration camp. Lock them in an airtight room and let them all smoke until they are asphyxiated.

Harsh but fair.

Joking aside It makes me puke when I smell my clothes after a night out, and think I have been breathing that in all night.

Smokers are getting hot under the collar about their rights to smoke in public etc. But have never given a second thought for us non-smokers. When I think those b*astards are smoking while I am eating it sends me into rages!!!!!!!

Smokers are addicted to nicotine and the only reason they smoke is to lose that craving. So in fact they pay good money to be normal like the rest of us......mad.

All I needed to give up second time around was two telly adverts:

1) The bloke dying in hospital hoping that he would live in time for his daughter to come over from Aussie to see him one last time. She didn't make it.

2) The disgusting adverts last year with fat dripping out of smoking cigarettes in a pub droppin gonto people's clothing. That was foul.

I gave up cigarettes ten years ago and then in a rushg of madness started on the occasionl cigar three years ago. One years later I was smoking cigars like cigarettes. I am so glad I packed it in and this time for good.

i think each to his own but agree with the smell on clothes and effect on others lungs blah blah but it doesnt tend to worry me.

only time my teeth grind is when your in a restaurant and a nearby table sparks up while your eating (not all smokers just minority). very inconsiderate.

I've been going to a smoke free pub recently and it is great to not have to breath in others' smoke and to go home and not reek of it either.

Even as a smoker I agree - when I am having a meal I can't stand it when others lite up when I am eating.

And having a 2 year old daughter I don't want her exposed to it. At home I smoke down the bottom of the garden so it makes no odds smoking outside.

I am all for the ban.

Very true. I feel left out if my mates go out for a fag. I've got no reason to go outside with them, I don't smoke. I wanted to be part of the gang.

I gave up smoking by joining a mate if she was still not smoking by a certain time then I would join her. I gave up but she didn't.

I'd hate to be a smoker now and be told that I can longer smoke in a pub or club. Even though I know it would be benefiting me in the long run.

It's gonna be tough.

big trouble with this one....what is deemed to be a public place....a park? a footie stand?a private members bar? fck me there will be people getting slammed up all over the place...

hotel bedrooms and prisons are exempt (mustn't interfere with the poor inmates civil rights now must we)

so keep putting the taxes on ciggies up and keep finding different ways of making people not smoke....

off to the haig I reckon for private members clubs...

I have today incorporated 'hx smokers emporium limited' this will run a private members club made up only of smokers and they will be charged to join said members club..any attempt to enforce these new draconioan laws will result in the company suing the government for restriction of trade and forcing a private limited company to breech the trades desription acts...

fck the the lot of em....

If you are a smoker, are you concerned that, as you are one of the older posters on the forum, that giving up smoking will be harder because my dad found it really hard giving up after many years of smoking?
