If I could change one rule???

Recommended Posts

What frustrates you more than a midget trying to get on a bunk bed? ( easy BN1 mate)

What rule or development would improve football be it professionally or at our level?

The talk of goal line technology has been around for a while but apart from that are there any specific rules or applications that would improve the game?

For me it would be in the prem or fizzy pop leaguesto dispense with assistant refs for offside decisions at pitch level, I would leave them there but actually increase their authority to the level they are supposed to be. they would make decisions on throw in's etc but not offsides.

Given the pace of the modern game I would put two linos in a studio that would see the passage of play in 20/20 vision on a monitor thus seeing the moment the ball is played and the position of the receiving player in one go.

rather than now with the "as is " by the time the old lino looks up Terry Henry is 3 yards ahead?

Either that or Ban Zody from all football

thing is, any improvement will need to be implemented accross the board, not just in the premiership.

so, it's all very well having goal line technology and 2 linos in a warm studio studying state of the art replays in the prem. but could even the football league afford this, let alone the conference and esl.

i'd dispense with a player having to leave the field after needing treatment. a bit of common sense from the referee called for in this instance.

well said tree that is the one id change . Nothing worse than going in for a full blooded challenge , winning a free kick , but then your team gets penalised by having to play with ten men !!!

I saw a game last year between Tranmere and (cant remember other team) when a Tranmere player got hacked down in the box and won a penalty , he needed treatment for the injury . He then got up to take the pen as he was the regular pen taker only to be told he had to leave the pitch . The replacement pen taker duly missed the spot kick whilst the victim of the piece watched on from the sidelines.

The other way to combat this would be to chage the position where you are offside from!!!

Wait, I'll explain.

Instead of the halfway line, why not have another line (somewhere between the D and the centre circle) that is the offside line.

This would create more goalscoring chances (good for fans) and also less offsides... possibly.

Just an idea btw......

also, the subs have to show their studs to the lino's before they come on the pitch.

why do some lino's refuse to show their studs to the crowd when asked? i think it should be made compulsory for all assistant referees to, when asked 'studs or blades?' to duly comply and show.

Maybe we should just have no offsides?! That would promote more goalscoring opportunities!

I agree MMIM, i think the rule where you have to go off after having treatment is sick. Load of bollox. If your fit to carry on straight away, then you should be able to stay on the pitch.

However if you have blood pouring out your nose, then its understandable as to why you should go off for treatment.

the offside rule is necessary to stop lanky people like bn1 goalhanging.

it needs to be changed though as it's so bloody hard to understand nowadays what with 'interfering with play' etc. as people always say, if you're on the fckn pitch then you're interfering with play. bring back the offside=offside rule. that would make it simpler for the dozy linesmen. also, make them pass a fitness test each year so we don't get lino's the size of that big bird on the other thread waddling down the line.

good post shaun

i dont agree with all the technology stuff myself. i like the fact there is human error, without it we would have nothing to talk about. its far too complicated bringing technology in.

agree with treeboy to an extent about offside=offside but to a point you have to allow for people to be offside who arent interfering.

the BEST rule the FA can install into our beloved referees is asking them to employ common sense! thats all the game needs if you ask me. not busy refs and lino 'applying the laws'. use some common sense for petes sake.

though dermot gallagher was a good example last night. he could have sent off alex bruce for handball but didnt.

exactly.

human error is excellent, if they never got it wrong, we'd never be able to take the mickey out of them.

re-dermot gallagher, he is always getting himself into trouble by applying common sense instead of the laws of the game. regularly gets himself demoted to the championship for failing to send people off for crap reasons such as handball.

That was used in the US in the 70s and 80s. I agree with you. It would really make for more attacking play.

I wasn't aware of this, they do use these leagues as testers for the world game, so there must have been some reason wht it didn't go global.

Do we know why?

Because we're not allowed to interact with the crowd, if a player asked me to show him my studs I would without hesitation.

As for the fitness tests, thats a hard one. Personally, i think with a little bit of focus and concentration the assistant ref should be able to keep up with the second last defender with relative ease.

I've been to watch a few senior league games this season and havent seen anyone waddling but it could happen. A lot of the assitants are either at the tail end of their careers or as high as they are going to or want to get, so they sometimes find it hard to get the motivation to improve fitness.

I myself would be really pissed off if I was too slow and missed an offside, every game I go out on I always try to do myself, the referee and the teams justice, some managers dont agree though!

Anyway, offsides are obviously easier to judge from a higher position, but any law amendments need to be implemented throughout all levels of the game, honestly without human mistake the game would be boring anyway.

Blame FIFA they make all these silly offside rules, I found out a new interpretation of it last night at a meeting. I'll tell people bout it if you're interested

hiya mountie. of course i wasn't being serious with the studs or blades, but i think we'll be getting the players to ask alot more now

agree with the rest of your post, there are some lino's in the ESL packing some serious weight, but i doubt how many would be willing or motivated to continue of they had to pass a fitness test. it could mean more money for the rest of you though...

FIFA are rather annoying with all the new rules, if you have any info on a new interpretation, i for one would be grateful to know.

If for example one player is in an offside position, now known as player 1, a ball is hoofed upfield, player 1 runs towards the ball, as does player 2, who was onside. I was under the impression that once player 1 moved for the ball he was offside, according to the official last night he is not, if player 2 touches the ball before player 1 play should be allowed to continue. I did not know about this until last night so I dont think that it will happen on the ESL.

But that is the problem with common sense...

No consistency when Ref's used to rule with common sense then people were up in arms about interperatation and the rules being ambiguous.

I for one would like to see a green card rule applied green warning for a small foul, Yellow second warning or a more serious example of a first incident and maybe a sin bin (monitored by the 4 th offal. then a red and off.

i have to say that there are too many people whinging and moaning at referees and linos in the ESL.just get on with it,sometimes he goes against, sometimes for you.you see premiership referees and linos making colossal mistakes and they are supposed to be the best.give these people less stick and remember there wouldn't be a game without them... think about if even the ball would start moaning at the way some "quality" players caress it...
