Going back to the minimum groundshare requirement for the Ryman - the whole reason that Ford United left Rush Green was that they couldn't comply with the minimum period specified by the Ryman. Ford Sports, who lease the site from Ford Motor Company, only get a one year lease, so that was the maximum that they could offer to Ford United - or, as now, Romford. It wasn't enough for the Ryman, so Ford United had to move to Barkingside, where they have a longer groundshare agreement.

I have every faith in our management committee to ensure that, working with Brimsdown Sprts and Social Club, Brimsdown Road will be up to standard.

COME ON YOU ETs!!!!!!!!!!!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/director.gif" alt="" />

It seems that a much longer-term ground-sharing agreement will be necessary. Are the management committee working on this?

Let's throw something else in the pot to chew about - all this talk about

Groundsharing a la Ryman criteria may well become a thing of the past as the F A are now going to deal with the promotion issues at Level 2 ( ie Ryman Div 1 and Dr Martens 1 ) and , in addition to this they have now started talks on ground criteria at Level 3 to make it a more level playing field throughout the country so who's to say what the Ryman and Dr Martens, or for that matter, the F A criteria is on groundsharing for 2004 -2005 ? This could run and run folks - anyone involved in a ground-share should check with the league ABOVE them what the criteria is and thus avoid any undue expenditure !

Sometimes I lie in bed thinking about things that may never materialise -like a win on the lottery or THIS scenario...... What happens if ONE ESL club gets promoted to Ryman Div 1 at the end of this season but NO Essex or London/ Herts borders based club gets in a relegation position - surely the ESL cannot be disadvantaged for this . Will the much discussed " Pool" arrangement come into force and a club from another league ie Ryman 2 MOVE OVER to compensate the ESL for their loss ?

Taken from the Ryman League Handbook 2002/2003

Rule 9 ©

Until the Annual General Meeting in 2005, the first two clubs in Division Two shall subject to Rule 1(e), be promoted to either of the regional Division One, as recommended by the Management Committee and voted at the Annual General Meeting, together with two clubs to be promoted to the League as provided for in Rule 9(d) if they have the required grade.

If either of the Clubs applying for promotion do not have 'A' or 'B' grades then they shall be placed in Division Two and the last one or two placed clubs shall be placed in the feeder leagues.

After the Annual General Meeting in 2005 the first two placed clubs in Division Two shall not be automatically promoted but shall be considered for promotion together with any clubs applying from feeder leagues.

In the event of either of the first placed teams in Division Two not having the appropriate ground grading then the number of clubs relegated shall be reduced accordingly.

The last two clubs in each of the regionalized Division One shall be relegated to either Division Two or to a feeder if there are clubs to be promoted in exchange for those clubs.

If a club is to be placed in a feeder league the appropriate league shall be decided upon by the Isthmian Joint Liaison Committee

Rule 1e is about fulfilling your paperwork agreements

Rule 9d is with regards to 88 team being in the league at all times

----------

It would appear from this Ruling That you need a A or B Grade to go into Division One North or South but a C grade will get you into Division Two.

You have to be in the top two in your league to even be considered and only one goes up,

Thanks to FREEBIRD for keeping this topic alive . The Ryman rules confirm the situation re promotion from the FESL as requiring a B grade minimum grading and that only one ( from the top two) can go so long as they conform to these terms. I do not think, though, that anyone with a "C" grading can be "promoted" to the Ryman dIv 2 as THAT division is only on a par, in the pyramid system with the FESL and who wants to in any case ? So, folks unless anyone wishes to come up with any other definitive ideas it looks like Grade B and up you go or nought !

What a load of crap! "oh excuse mr FA, i've got a fiver here, will you promote us please?" Thats a pile of [censored]. And what team in their right mind would refuse promotion. Whoever invented these rules deserves a slap.

<hr></blockquote>Promotion sometimes gets refused because the club won't be able to afford to upgrade their ground quickly enough or that promotion would be into a more geographically widespread league and the club hasn't got the funding in place to finance the extra travel. Accepting promotion when you can't afford it would be something of a Pyrrhic victory. Having said that, I think the Ryman League has a rule which allows the management committee to relegate a club which refuses promotion to the Conference because that would undermine its position within the Pyramid.

As far as the rules go, they have to fit within the FA's National League System for the league to remain within the Pyramid. Leagues must have some sort of leeway but the actual structure is being imposed more and more from above. The person you want to slap is probably Greg Fee, the National Leagues Manager, but he is bigger than you so I wouldn't bother if I were you.

BTW, what was the comment about the fiver for? Surely you're not claiming that bribery would be used or that the FA would take it? As far as I can see the comments about money in this discussion are to do with funding a better team and better facilities and therefore putting a club in with a chance of winning the league with a ground of at least "B" grade.

Not only has Mo found his way to the nub of the problem (Mo for Home Secretary anyone?) but Cyclops has managed (yet again) to use the word Pyrrhic in a post as wll as in a fanzine. I've not heard anyone else use this term so frequently and why dies it have a capital 'R'?

Looks more like a capital "P" to me. Don't know why though.

<hr></blockquote>Not just the word "Pyrrhic" (which wouldn't really get used much on its own) but the phrase "Pyrrhic victory". 'Tis a capital "P" because Pyrrhus was a king who defeated the Romans, but at such huge cost to his own side that, as he pointed out, one more victory like that and his lot would have their chips. He didn't say it in English though.

Just in case you're wondering (and I'm sure you all are, now), he found out the hard way that he was right, about five years later.
