did anyone read the story about the fella who has been sued for a tackle that broke another players leg.

he was ordered to pay the victim £11000 compensation plus £7000 expenses.

surely this sets a precedent for the future?

people on the victims side said it was the worst tackle they have ever seen and people on the opponents side say it was there to be one.

do you think this is fair? or not.

the fella who has been ordered to pay £18000 cannot afford that and is considering bankruptcy!

i read that.

there was no referee in the game and the judge had to take evidence from the players themselves.

perhaps the way forward is to sign a waiver when playing for a sunday league side. it's not on that someone gets stuck in and has their life ruined for being sued.

understand his team mates are refusing to play in case they get sued as well.

yeah well it is scary that is you injure someone your life will be left in tatters.

i think you would need to see the challenge to make such a call. it may well have been disgusting but you just couldnt say.

well thats the problem EMFC. was it intentional? how can it be judged intentional based on perhaps biased evidence.

i agree my full sympathies go to the fella who was injured.

what if a goalkeeper goes to ground at the feet of a player and they tangle and the player is left hurt. do we sue the GK?

football is a contact sport. if you're willing to play in a game with no referee, you're risking it anyway.

must have been a shocking challenge for a judge to decide to bankrupt him on the word of the players, who would no doubt all have been impartial.

both tackles were a disgrace to the game. wengers comments were an outrage.

bridgey the paper said even if he did have insurance he would not have been covered for this case scenario.

I think this is just another example of this suing culture that we live in. It's ridiculous!! I have had lumps knocked out of me and have knocked lumps out of other people. Sometimes in the heat of the moment it has been deliberate, on both sides. So this Judge has said this player was assaulted so do we make football a non contact sport ?

I would appeal I can't see how a judgement like this can stand

Both players should have walked. Lehman should of been sent off too for trying to get another player booked. He goes down, writhes around in agony, when he doesn't hear any whistle he jumps up and has a go. What a cheating scumbag!! Plus he's a kraut!!
