Tamworth manager Mark Cooper has asked former Walsall player-manager Paul Merson to play for the Lambs at Woking this Saturday.

 

Merson, a former England international, is keen to return to playing football after leaving the Bescot Stadium on Monday and boss Coooper has offered him a deal on non-contract terms.

 

However, Cooper is not confident that the veteran footballer will accept his offer, with Nottingham Forest rumoured to be interested in capturing his services.

 

"With all due respect to Tamworth, there will be bigger clubs wanting to sign Paul," Cooper told the the Tamworth Herald.

 

"I have told him if he wants to come and have a game to get fit, there will be no pressure on him.
