2 Crew Spaces Available for Chatham

At present Lotus Eater is dismasted on Land in Burnham. The boatyard are going to put new chain plates in. These are the things to which the stays are attached that hold the mast up. I have put in new self tailing winches and this week we aim to antifoul and paint the rubbing strip with wood stain. The engine has had new filters fitted before winter.

Well I have looked at the fixture list and I am going to seek to get the boat in the water by mid March. I hope to leave bound for Chatham on 16th March. HW at Havengore is 13:35 so we should have enough water accross foulness sands from around 12:30 which should give us enough time to reach Sheerness for the night.

17th March Low water 08:06 so if we leave at 09:00 after breakfast should have enough water to reach Chatham by 13:00 or just before high water. Explore Chatham and Rochester. See the game Saturday.

Leave Sunday Morning 02:45 am to arrive at Burnham (Long way round by Mid Afternoon

Any takers?

One could say that was a "blonde question" however Stephen Maturin, the surgeon in the Patrick O'Brien Series associated with Master and Commander could never understand why Jack Aubrey kept rushing him with the words, "There is no time to lose".

My wife has a similar problem and whilst those are the times that I have calculated will give us the best tides I anticipate that I will have to add an hour whilst Sheila enquires whether the engine is all right.

Not too windy - especially in the face of the direction you are going.

The wind was from the east and Force 6-7 gusting. Force 4-5 is good enough for my and the wife would downgrade that to F3-4.

I would also like to point out that leaving the Crouch and coming back from the Medway would mean travelling east into the teeth of that gale.

Pah! Where's your Nelson spirit, Steph? Lash the wife to the mainmast, set your jaw and sail under all but bare poles into the teeth of the wind!I'm sure all the lads behind the goal would see you off with a chorus of "For those in peril", and the ladies will wave white hankies from the quayside...

Even Nelson couldn't leave when the wind was in the wrong direction! To be caught on a lee shore is not Nelson spirit but foolhardiness.

I was caught on a lee shore once in a dinghy on Rickmansworth lake. You look pretty silly I can tell you. Saw a dinghy caught on a lee shore at Brightlingsea last year when we played Clacton. They also looked pretty silly.
