Sexy Football

Phil Old Boy

Recommended Posts

Just been looking at the Fixtures & Results from around a year ago to see who is still left in the club. Still good to see, although whether they will all play together again, are 9 players still here who started against Burnley. They were Harrison, Bennett, Duffy, Chenery, Ward, Knight, Kennedy, Boylan and Parmenter. The two not here are Stimpson and Miller. If fit and available, could the 9 above recreate something like those sexy football days plus Neil Gregory, who wasn’t fit that day. Bennett could go into Stimpson’s position and that leaves a place at the back alongside Chenery. Remember the teams this lot used to beat and were rated a top conf 6 side.

I'd play Potter instead of Ashley, put Ross Johnson into that space at the back and there you have it!

A Canvey Island FC FA Cup Giant-Killing veterans!!!

Maybe if we pick up some pathetic little team in a Mickey Mouse cup we could try it...

But knowing our luck, we'd lose and it would've been our best chance at winning something this year!!

Phil its nice to dream but gone is gone and we must use what we have and build again

what skills do you see required to get back to "sexy football" and would you stay with the present system

how would you mix and match the squad but most importantly how do you propose we "trigger" the sexy football in games

PS Phil its claimed on the Braintree message page that CIFC have made two bids for Gavin Cowans which have been turned down

How do you think he would improve the fast sexy football we are all looking for

I’m not sure what you mean “is gone is gone pabird”. It was only 10 months ago we played Burnley. To lose Bodley, Tilson, Smith, Stimpson and yes, Miller and Vaughan has been a big blow, but even they were missing at some point from time to time. However from the players that are left from last season, that style of play could of carried on if they had played, if available, and in their right positions from last year. Not really sure what the alarm would be if we played the team I have mentioned above with maybe the inclusions mentioned by Matt. These boys have done us proud and they know each other. As well as good individual performances, we want to see a good team performance as well. At times last season, this team was so dominant, they were passing the ball around the opposition’s penalty area trying carefully, too carefully most of the time, to dribble the ball into the net, but the football was great. The new team should have been built around them.

Mind you with our latest signing, Matt’s veterans tag might not be so far away!

I was looking for the trigger IE Stimmo & Tilly collected from the back 4 or 3 and started moves through the mid-field or made the "occassional" longer thro ball

Most importantly they made space and created space from the back thro mid-field

Coincidently Phil they took their load in defending space as part of their game

I was not attempting to confuse but if you consider the two most common ways played in the league being 1.) playing long down the channels is easy with defenders hitting the ball into space with pace and power men fighting for possession

2.) Playing to feet with a mix of short and thro passing with all eleven players involved this being a style that must play to a "rhythm" and that rhythm has to be triggered by key defenders and mid-fielders who can pass long and short

Tilly and Simmo were two very classy non-league players and losing both in such a short period of time will require patience
