Boreham Wood 1 Town 0

lovely stuff

I thought that the team played well today. The defence was excellent with Russell Penn outstanding.

Boreham Wood were the best side we have played this season. Disciplined and they ran for every ball. We need somebody with pace and strength up front. I was watching Trevor Paul today and he has been found out. He only has one foot.

Steph,

I cannot believe it has taken you this long to work that out about Trevor !!

Great on left but ineffective on the right, so where is he most of the time.....on the right.

We all see the game from different viewpoints, but was it just me that thought the Ref today was just giving free kicks one way ?

The free kick count was unbelieveable with so many to Wood inside the Town half.

The free kick that cost us the goal was very harsh. How many times will you see the Ref play on when a ball is hit directly AT a player.

Very cruel decision.

Having said that Town must have had the best 2 chances with Steve V managing to hit a ball wide off the goal and the oncoming Bryne and Trevor fluffing a 1 to 1 with the keeper ( and on his left foot ).

We need a new forward who can hit the back of the net.

I wonder if Boreham Wood will be reported to Hertfordshire under the Trades Description Act?

£8.00 to get in which included a programme(subject to availability)

What a con. They only needed to print one programme, off load it and then say they had run out! When challenged, they would not reduce the admission fee because they had run out of programmes.

Even the admission details were on paper covering the £7.00 entrance fee information which is probably used on most occasions. £5.00 for children! What a way to attract local people.

As for the free kick which led to the goal. A ball hit at a player from approx 2 yards away which the ref' gives as handball! Not a very good performance by the referee.

Suprised Woodward was dropped today.

Before the game, would we have settled for creating four very good chances against the league leaders, away from home.YES

But would we have also expected to convert any of those chances, the way we are finishing at present. PROBABLT NOT.

The game went to current form.

We passed alright today and closed down well and kept our shape..etc,but there was no conviction in the final thrid either in the close or the long range shooting.

PS..Message to supporters behind the goal.Inanely shouting praise and clapping players after they have ballsed up another pass or an easy shot at goal, does not do any good whatsoever.Criticising is no help either,i agree. But neither is constantly praising players for poor play.If it helped us score more, i would say carry on,but the tactic is not working, and its getting stupid.Someone shouted 'well-up' today, to a player who was nowhere near the ball or had any intention of getting it.Most of the crowd behind the goal clapped in approval when a player fluffed an easy shot from six yards out.Be passionate and get behind the player,by all means. But don't patronise them.

I thought the ref did ok today but agree the free kick that led to the goal was harsh, but have seen them given before.

Thought it was a good game, end to end & flowed well too, for the 2nd week running I thought we stepped up a gear when Smudger come on although I think I would have replaced Trevor rather than Niall, he is coming back from injury but I would have put Campbell on in his place.

Well done to the Wood they played well & their back 4 were excellent, their number 2 in particular was impressive, very fast indeed.

Don't think there will be many at Town who will agree with your Ref comments !
As for their back four...yes the 2 was good and the 5 not bad, but I did not think much of the 4 and the 3 was poor when someone ran "at him".
Why did Jim take Richie off and leave Paul on ?

Shouldn't something be done to stop this kind of thing happening? Clubs should have to register their admission price and stick to it, cup runs an exception.

I am proud to say the only money I spent was on admission as I also refuse to be ripped off in their bar.

I thought we were a bit unlucky today. It seemed every loose ball fell to a Wood player, and every time one of their players stuck a toe out at a passing ball, it landed right for them. But then, to a certain extent you make your own luck and Wood are top for a reason. I liked their 2 and I thought their 4 was pretty good at getting in the way of passes.

My main complaint about the ref was his pedantic nature. Calling for free kicks to be moved 2 feet and suchlike. Slowed up the game.

And I'm not entirely convinced we were offside at one point late in the game. It was a close call whichever way it was.

Kamata, Penn, Negus, Gant, Allen, Stephens, Velandia, Hall, Paul, Hammatt, Ritchie, Campbell, Hannigan, Smith, Woodward, Baldwin

Gate 369

Well Enfield Towns Japanese international Ken Kamata was thrown in at the deep end today and swam pretty well I thought. The first 20 minutes were pretty much all Borehamwood as town decided to sit there take it and count their guns. Some nice little moves from Kevin Stephens and Matty Negus to break out on occasion. Ken Kamata had an early confidence boosting clearance out of the ground. A wood striker headed right across the goal. Trevor Paul made an assault on goal got to the byline hesitated and was then dispossessed. Ken Kamata gathered the ball well. The wood were all over town with shots going wide quite often. Town broke out again and Imber went up for a ball with Hammatt who bundled him into the back of the net. The crowd cheered as Chris Bangura was booked for an offence. Matty Negus crosses well for Trevor to volley wide. A pass back to Imber went wrong and Steve Velandia just missed nipping in and stealing a goal. Shame. There were at least two clearances for town off the line by town defenders. Finally Wood bundled Ken Kamata into the net holding the ball but fortunately the infringement went our way, Town must have been the naughtiest players on the park because decisions in Woods favour must have been 10 to 1 in favour of the wood. So at half-time it was 0 – 0 and town began to wonder if it would be our day as we had successfully ridden our luck through clearances.

Second half saw some virtuoso tackling back from Russell Penn and Ken Kamata was again saving well. Kevin Stephens had a shot blocked that would have been in all but for the block. Rudi Hall made a crucial tackle on the edge of the box beautifully. Ken Kamata tipped the ball over. Trevor Paul was in 1 on 1 with the keeper saved. Damn! Town appeared to have solve the midfield problems with town building nicely down both wings. Route one against these giant backs was never going to work. Second half the ball on the ground was proving far more effective. Adam Gant went down injured. Lee Smith on for Niall Ritchie who appeared to need to leave sharpish. Lee then immediately in on the action sliding in on goal just missed it damn. Finally in the 85th minute Wood got the goal they needed from Bangura. From then on town were not going to come back.

Wood did look better than they did at our place but if we could have scored the outcome might have been different.

At this time we are now having to hope on if’s buts and maybe’s which is not ideal.
