Still one other I can think of - in the news recently, and what about Andy King of Everton? Did he ever play in a Cup Final?

Well done, he was the one I was thinking of. He played for Spurs in the 1967 final.

I was under the impression he did!

The late, lamented George Waker was quoted as saying that he thought that Kinnear played one game for the youth team.

I have been reliably informed that he did turn out for the reserves - again, this hardly counts.

If, in future years, GHA were to write an autobiography, or even complete a job application form, and if he were to say "I well remember the camaraderie among t'lads, the roar of the greasepaint, the smell of the crowd, during those halcyon days when I played at Ryman Premier League St. Albans City...", then, quite rightly, he could be criticised in the light of the reality of his two appearances for the Reserves.

 

[i imagine that De Souza and Crawshaw still have nightmares about the evening they were given a football lesson by the St Albans 8 at Farnborough last season. I'll ask them on Saturday.]

 

Anyway, back to the point. As far as the statisticians are concerned, this may not 'count', I concede, and I am intrigued at Joe Kinnear's apparent reference to it in a book.

 

That said, GHA is right. he has worn the yellow and blue it would seem and, thus, represented The Saints.

 

Oh, by the way. I have not played for The Reserves although I haven't completely given up hope that I will receive the call.
