Britwell Regeneration

Below is a link to the current council proposals for regeneration of Britwell/Kennedy Park.

It is interesting to note that these proposals appear to involve more development on the Kennedy Park site then ever considered by the football club feasability study. The football stadium was proposed on a brown field site owned by Slough Estates. Obviously this is just at the consultation stage but it is already costing the Slough tax payer more than the previous privately funded feasability study. Also the regeneration itself will be more costly as this will not attract the same sort of sporting grants available to the football club.

Finally as many of the councillors were at pains to point out when the football club feasability study was underway - the people of Britwell who responded to the questionnaire overwhelmingly wanted to see the Park remain just as that - a park with trees and flowers. So is this consultation really necessary?

I wonder if the same councillors will now be so passionately opposed to these proposals. There is a public consultation meeting on the 22nd February at the Britwell Community Centre. Have a look and see for yourself:

Ideally supporters living in the Britwell area will feel sufficiently interested to attend the public consultation of their own accord. However, there will certainly be orchestrated supporter representation.

Is that orchestrated or orchastrated? In my view the two have wildy differing meanings! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

I've had a little look at the online survey that is part of the consultation process.

I particularly liked this bit

Quote:
New housing developments should be used to raise money to help improve parks, community facilities and the urban environment.

So let me get this clear - new housing developments will be built to raise money to IMPROVE parks? How is that possible exactly when it is the parks that are going to be built upon?????

Sorry Ian that was from the Chris S school of spelling.

The whole Britwell proposal now put forward is just bizarre.

I've just been looking through it. Key features are: "NEW" combined health centre and library. (They already have a health centre and library). "NEW" terrace of shops on Wentworth Avenue. (They already have shops on Wentowrth). "NEW" Parish hall. (They already have a Parish Hall). "New" leisure facilities, meaning a football pitch and two smaller pitches. (They already have football pitches behind the existing Parish Hall).

Forgive me for being cynical but that's not regeneration, that's called REFURBISHMENT!

They also plan to build a link road connecting Long Furlong Drive to Northborough and the Trading Estate.....one of the fundamental objections they had to the previous scheme that involved the football club!

The best bit is the proposal to build at least FIFTEEN "low density, high value homes", on the strip of grass land which separates Farnham Lane from the nice chalet bunglow style houses. I can hear the justification now...."Sorry Mr and Mrs Resident, your house which previously would have sold for £400k has just been devalued by 25% because we've built another house in your front garden. Yes, we know it's ridiulous but it's the only way we could generate enough revenue to build on much of the remaining park space in Britwell"!! They'll be so chuffed when they're told.

Well said, we need people there who understand the ways in which council meetings run, and can get the information over in the best way.

As soon as it gets immotional, THEY have the ammunition.

Would it be possible to lobby Fiona McTaggert before hand to speak on our behalf, if she is willing and available.

We have some britwell residents alreay to speak ... Most will be unhappy about the new propsals don't you worry...

22feb all supporters can attend if you live in slough , because unless their are raising the money as a parish council..they will be spending Slough's money so any slough resident can question them on who's money are they spending and will it force the council tax up and ever upwards by this hung council.. NOC !!! only because the tories and in coilition they are in power..

250,000 pouns of tax payers money spent on this fesiblity study ...not britwell money but slough tax payers money..

The letter from John

Euro stadium

In recent times I have travelled widely in Europe, North America, and Australia, and have yet to

discover another town with the population of 120,000 that does not have a decent stadium as a part of its amenities.

The rather modest affair projected for Kennedy Park, Britwell, in 2004, was not enormous in any sense of the word, but it would also have provided a sports centre that would have been ideal for the town of Slough as the approach of the Olympic Games of 2012 when the thoughts of our youngsters in the town will no doubt to turn enthusiastically to sport.

The BILLD group created many myths that have been misconstrued by some of our politicians as factual over the stadium. There was of course never the need to build a stadium with 6,000 seats for the club. Such an idea would be ridiculous as a vast majority of Slough Town’s loyal supporters prefer to stand.

Taking all things into consideration an excellent scheme seems to have been scuppered by just a few.

The houses should be showing on the green side ..inside slough boundary ! or is this another ploy to hood wink those residents that are on farnham lane...

250,000 pounds spent and can not even get the plans right ! what a shower....

We are not oppossed to the idea of regeneration but they have taken the Labour plans and used them as their own...with modifications , which could have been done with the orginal plans, but now use it not to include the stadium for our new home and now not getting extra faclities that the stadium would have bought , and some extra things for the northborough side, which on their plans does not get anything ! If the stadium had been included most of the costs would have been granted from various sorcers, but now I feel their funding and mathmatics will not add up and the tax payers of Slough will be left to pick up the bill and get nothing from it... the stadium plan would have been a win win situation for everyone...this is the point that makes me so mad ! We could have worked together to have seen what the best would have been...now its become a half cocked measure with small gains...for some but not the majority....

and to make maters worse they will be building on green spaces...something they said they would not do !

lies lies lies....

The flawed 'consultation' that scuppered the feasibilty study returned a vote of 83% (small turnout) against a 10,000 seat stadium and 82% against building houses on Kennedy Park.

So they got rid of a 6,000 capacity stadium and now want to build houses on the same area. Not only that, but they propose to build houses on at least 2 other recreation areas as well.

Its the sheer hypocracy that angers me. Look into it, you will be angry too. If you live nearby, make sure you attend the public meeting on 22nd Feb.
