I didnt like the Pierremont proposals. I had sentimental reasons as well as planning reasons against it. Three floors, its far too big not to mention looked out of place. One of the problems when it came to council was that a number of the councillors left the room during that agenda item due to declaring a conflict of interest.

 

Another planning application causing trouble is the Ursuline College application for a sports hall. Its being built in green land which means TDC objected to it but KCC is the planning authority here and they make the choice...the recommendation is to approve it. We'll know by Tuesday what the decision is.

 

Planning law is, to be perfectly honest, [****!!****]. It doesnt take into account local opinion as much as it should doand leans too far in favour of builders and developers. Yes, we need housing and shops, but it needs to be done properly.

Can you name the two seperate projects in Thanet that are propsing to build these same things .

 

1) Hotel

 

2) Conference Centre

 

Which one will get the easier planning trip or I am just being cynical??

I think they are about the same...its probably best to have both as one as long as it doesnt become visually unattractive to the local residents. A hotel fits nicely with a conference centre, thus why MFC has gone for the option, at least in its previous applications and almost certainly in the upcoming ones. You can fit it in and attract the professionals looking for a place to meet. In terms of getting permission, since we dont have many high quality hotels in Thanet and a conference centre can be integrated with, I cant see many problems. Not as many as say building a block of flats.
