New to St Albans

I am looking to move to St Albans and am thinking about putting in an offer on a house in Vesta Avenue but am a bit put off by the neighbouring road, Wilshere Avenue. Can anyone tell me what it is like around there and if it is as bad as it looks. Apologies if anyone lives there and I have just offended them.
