Under 16s sink the Rocks

The Under 16's beat East Thurrock United today by 3 1

in the Chairman's cup at Rookery Hill on a pitch which was sanded and bobbly but dry.

Ou lads, showing several changes with players returning after injury, displayed their passing football in a keenly contested first half that saw us nearly score on three occasions, particularly a mazy run and shot by Geoffrey Carroll that just went past the far post.

The reward came when just before half time, Edward Freeman gathered the ball just inside the Rocks half, took a few paces forward and buried a shot over the keeper from fully 35 yards out. A goal worth the entrance money alone!

I would have fully expected the young Urchins to go on from this, but several chances went begging before we seemed to lose our concentration and East Thurrock scored from a scrambled effort after a corner 8 minutes from time.

This was only a pick me up as 2 goals from Alex Levoli, the first after a strong left wing run and cross from Charlie Clark and the second placed in the far corner after making space for himself on the left hand side of the penalty area.

Overall a great performance from our boys with Joe Stanton outstanding in midfield.

Unfortunately no tea bar open for the crowd of circa 73, but a thoroughly entertaining afternoon nevertheless.

As far as I know, football things at the Urchins are run pretty much the same as when we were in the conference south.

I guess you could say they know what they are doing.

i would of gone to watch this game had i knew it was on,can we have their fixtures printed a few days in advance so i can watch some more footy,it would of beat watching the spuds beat charlton heston!
