Second placed team to be promoted

From what i read in the Waltham Forest programme yesterday,it seems that the teams finishing 1st and 2nd in our league will now be automatically promoted,whilst teams finishing 3 to 6 enter a play-off.

I always thought it was supposed to be three clubs to be promoted to the Southern League Premier Division or the Isthmian League Premier Division.

 

I think the champions and second placed teams are guaranteed automatic promotion with the winners of the play-off between 3rd and 6th teams.

I don't think that is new news.
The another site has always shown the tp two going up and the next 4 in a play off.

Many of us were under the impression that only the winners were to go up,with 2 to 6 entering a play-off.

 

Glad it is two.Having said that,i wouldn't be surprised if the goalposts change by the end of the season.

It is the top 2.

But are the play offs per league, i.e. the winners from SLE plays offs go up as well as those from SLW play offs, or do they meet in a final?

Always been under the impression that the top two go up. Places 2 - 6 in a play off would cause problems, especially having 5 teams vying for one place.

This is what we have been told will be happening for the Isthmian league - the Southern will probably be the same.

 

Step 3 and Step 4

The clubs in the bottom three places in each of the three divisions at Step 3 at the end of season 2005/2006 (this will revert to four clubs with effect 2006/2007) will be relegated to a feeder pool and placed in the most geographical appropriate division at Step 4. These nine clubs will be joined by an additional club, this being the club finishing fourth from bottom in the three divisions at Step 3 with the lowest points gained per game played. This club will also be allocated to a feeder pool.

They will be replaced by the clubs finishing in 1st and 2nd position in each of the divisions at Step 4 together with a further four clubs to be determined by a series of play off matches involving those clubs finishing in positions 3 to 6 in each of the divisions at Step 4. The promoted clubs will also be placed in a feeder pool and placed in the most geographically appropriate division at Step 3.

 

Step 4 (First Divisions)

Semi Finals - One Game (Tuesday 2nd May 2006)

Club in 3rd place v Club in 6th place

Club in 4th place v Club in 5th place

Final – One Game (Saturday, 6th May 2006)

Highest placed club will play at home

Won't there be fun and games at the bottom, though. What chance of three down with all the messing about to create a new step 4 league, and when will clubs know? There'll be some nailbiting on the last day of the season, I reckon!

Well we better make sure we have the ground available for 2nd and 6th. Nice to have a top two position so we don't have to worry about playoffs.

It would be nice.Last month we were about 9 points clear of the third place team.Now we are going to have to fight hard for the rest of the season,for that 2nd spot.
