MFC 2, ETU 1 ... www.margate-fc.com updated.

Wellsie

I did not see the winning and holding possession in midfield ,and feeding of forwards that Wellsie saw.

I thought midfield was poor today, and had we gained some form of control in midfield, we could really have dominated.

As ever, we all see things different

Quie right. The basis of my comments os that I see a great improvement in the middle since Pat G has been back. His - and others' - harrying of the ETU midfield was good yesterady I thought. And Pat G did see a lot of the ball. I have been greatly impressed with Ian Hilaire who has been getting better and better in his attaking midfield role. We seem to have a more confident defensive unit that through Hasim links up well with midfield, and we do look to be getting numbers into the opposition third as evidenced by the number of chances we seem to be creating. But as you, we do see it all differently. And to be honest, I'm not in the most ideal place, am I?

I agree with Wellsie on this. I thought the midfield was excellent yesterday, yes Gradley gave the ball away once or twice but he did a lot right and was closed down very well by their players who probably set out to limit his time on the ball. Hilaire and Yiga were full of running and Id love them to keep that work rate up as it was great to see. Brayley was excellent but ive voted Yiga my M.O.M but it could easily have been Ian.

I think that E Thurrock's style of play actually helped us make more of the midfield section yesterday - boy that long ball stuff is horrible to watch for any length of time, and it was good when we got the ball down on the field and played football, although they did try to prevent us doing so.

The strength and confidence at the back helps that, of course. I thought Trott was very impressive yesterday, and wonderful with his head, reminded me a bit of Porter. And it was great to see he takes so much enjoyment out of his game, every time I looked, he had this big wide grin on his face (except when he was giving the vocal encouragement, something we have needed more of). I also think the goalie is very good, and that is bound to give confidence to the lads to push up more.

I agree with Wellsie about Ian Hilaire though, he has certainly been having a decent run of form lately, and was unlucky not to score.

I know i am a game behind, but having by luck seen the last two home games, the more i think about it, we could just as easily have lost 5-2 against ETU.

They did have a few relatively easy chances.

Slough had the rub of the green and scored 5.

ETU did not and we scraped a win.

Otherwise, there was not much difference in the two games or performances, and arguably, we were better in midfield and attack against Slough !!
