Souness Sacked by Newcastle

They quote Gazza at 500-1 to take over... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

All very well sacking Souness (once you lose the crowd that is it for any manager) but surely this should have been done before the transfer window closed? A new manager would have had a far better chance of turning things round if he had had the chance to bring in a couple of new players, now that chance has gone for the new man and he has to make the most of what he has there already.

I heard that one of the main reasons (apart from the obvious one, £££) that Owen signed was that he was given a guarantee that Souness was not going to be sacked. I think that there is a pretty fair chance Owen may well be off at the end of the season now, though why the "bigger" clubs did not sign him 1st time up when he became available still is an unanswered question as far as I am concerned.

The Newcastle job really is a poisoned chalice. Such high expectations at a club where the one thing you can always guarantee that it will "all end in tears" - I reckon that Sven is a good bet to take over there for next season. Glenn Roeder (amazed any club would ever want to employ him again after the "job" he did at West Ham) and Shearer to do a holding job till the end of the season and Sven to take over after that.

Tell them that "The Loon" told it here first... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

It's a shame, because he would've taken Newcastle even closer to relegation, which at the end of the day would make me extremely happy. I hate Newcastle and all these people who proclaim that they're such a big club, when the only reason they've got so many fans is because there's sod all else to do or support up there. They're a small club and a relegation would prove that.

I really don't understand the meaning of your post. You say you hate them and the people who say they're a big club.

What valid reason should a team have for having a load of fans? You haven't said anything about All-Over-The-Country Man U fans, etc.

I guess your theory means supporting the team nearest to you is stupid, and that you should support any team in the country?

I disagree, personally. Newcastle may be a small team, but they have a great bunch of fans, and a good stadium many teams are like Newcastle for that reason.

In my honest opinion, any team that has Owen and Shearer as strikers can be classed as a big team. Quite possibly two of the best strikers England has seen in a long time.

Not moaning, just don't quite understand the relevance. (And no, I'm not a Newcastle fan.)

No, what I meant was, there isn't any other teams in Newcastle for the fans to go to. That's why they have such a large fan base. What other reason would there be? There's no success at Newcastle for fans in Plymouth to support them. Whereas Man Utd have fans all over the World because they have done great things.

By no means are their supporters stupid, but they are extremely deluded.

I have just read Gazza´s book on the beach, cracking read a real insight. He is mad as a march hare, but I still see him as one of my idols.

I would give him the Newcastle job, I might have afiver at 500~1.
