No real shock but it`s finally offfical in tonight`s Echo

Long-serving goalkeeper Ashley Harrison has ended his seven year long career with Canvey.

He was released from his Park Lane contract yesterday and has signed for Southern League Division 0ne East Great Wakering Rovers, with whom he has been on loan for two months

"Ash has been magnificent servant for Canvey Island Football Club over the years and i`d personally like to thank him for all he`s done for the club," Gulls boss Jeff King said."I hope he`ll be able to help Wakering enjoy success in their fight against relegation."

All the best Ash <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/applaus.gif" alt="" />

one of those sad things about the club moving forward. Ash is a brillient keeper and far to good to be not playing 1st team plus he is a top guy.

thanks for the 7 years ash, you will always be welcome to come a join in with the yellow army

Damn, it hasn't even made the Official site yet.

He was on the last year of his contract, and he wasn't going to get many games while Danny Potter was Canvey's No.1

He can do better than Great Wakering but with his job at SEEC and everything, I suppose it was an ideal situation.

Good luck Ash, has anyone else been at the Club as long as him and Wardy?

Ash was a key player in those FA Cup/Trophy matches in 2001.

Believe a key moment for Ash was when he got sent off against I think it was Boreham Wood a couple of years ago. Danny went in goal for the pen and saved it and remained in goal for just about the rest of the season thereafter.

Great shame that he has gone but things have moved on, even though I like our players from our memorable cup runs to remain.

Dare say that for the club to progress, there will have to be quite a number of changes still to the current line up, or would becoming full time resolve this?

What would you have Ash as, a Canvey Hero/Legend or perhaps both?

Well done Ash!

Every player that played a part in the build-up to the Trophy final will be classed as a Legend. Those that played against Wigan, Northampton and Burnley are Heroes.

If they took part in both...Then I dunno, we'll have to think of something for them.

Good luck Ash. Hope it works out well for him at Great Wakering.

The greatest bit of goalkeeping i saw him do was against Northampton when he clambered on his hands and knees all the way across the right side of the penalty area to stop their striker from scoring. He was so committed to stopping him and that was what Ash did all the time for us.

Brilliant keeper and way too good to be at Wakering. Good luck mate and i hope everything works out for ya. Your a hero and will always be remembered as Canvey's greatest keeper.
