Westview Cup Q/F v Heybridge Match Updates.

K.O put back to 8.10 due to players getting stuck on the M40.

Seedel starts for Hodges and Mason is out for rest of the season due to damaged discs in his back. Otherwise strongest team available to play.

Team:

Masters, Steele, Ballard, Daly, Avery, Woodruffe, Harris, Alexis, McCleary, Seedel, Carbon.

Clearly took a lot of confidence from the AFC match as we started very brightly and took the lead after a mix-up in their defence that Ballard took advantage of.

They came back into it more, but we could have made it 2-0 when McCleary hit a screamer from the edge of the area that hit the bar. In truth they never really threatened Clark's goal first half.

Second-half we were sloppy early on, but Ballard made it 2-0 then 3-0 to make the game safe. Suprised by them as in truth they were all-over us in the league match until the sending off at their place, so I expected a much tougher encounter.

Great result considering we were basically down to our last fit 11 players.

Ballard will get all the rave reviews - and rightly so, but for me both Steve Daly and Aaron Steele in particular were excellent tonight.

Good performance on a very cold night.

Who would have bet on Andy B netting our first hattrick of the season?!?!?! Thought Steele did ok but his (and Woody's for that matter) distribution is at times atrocious. The number of times the pair of them sliced it out of play was unreal. Heybridge, although missing some first teamers were dreadful, especially in defence and the normally reliable Nicholls didn't do a thing right, except tipping G's shot onto the bar.

Should also point out that Ballard was one of the players (Alexis, McCleary and Lovegrove the others) who were stuck on the M40. They arrived 15 minutes before kick off and had literally a 5 minute jogging warm up. Now who says, we need better pre-match preperation!!!

How bad were they, or how good were we? We denied them space in and around the area and let them have the ball further up the pitch. Can't remember Clark making a serious save, so perhaps credit to us, for making them look not so good.

Wonder what Statham will blame this time... Or even smash up? Didn't he get hauled in front of the FA after the semi final last season?

I thought we were excellent particularly first half and in the first twenty minutes we controlled the game creating a series of half chances and dominating possession and territorial advantage. I think that set the tone for the match.

I was surprised at how shoddy they were at the back but I don't think we really gave them a look in.

The squad is looking desperately thin though which is a worry. Particularly now adding to all the injuries with the excellent McClearey suspended. Conflicting reports over the Mason injury but it seems likely that he will play again this season which may not necessarily be in his best interest.

If Worthing still have Chuck I wouldn't mind playing them over two legs. Billericay are the team to avoid so we all know who we will get.
