No - this was never a football match as the rules require both teams to have at least seven players on the pitch.

 

But even had it been it would not have been the shortest.

 

Bath City v Dagenham is the answer. It was a foggy night, with the fog dropping, lifting and swirling.

 

It swirled and lifted just enough to clear the pitch. Out came the teams. Fog stops swirling and descends downwards at aprox 7.29.

 

At 7.30 it was so thick you could not see your hand behind your back.

 

Whistle blows.

What happened to player 22? He was the goalkeeper and he was called in five minutes later - he said he thought the play was at the other end.

No - they stuck to the rules which said "no refunds".

 

But they handed out tickets to get in for the re-staging - minor problem was that it was the following midweek in Bath, 180 miles away.

As a matter of interest, the other night when the game was abandoned. If the ref felt that all players were involved, could he have rightfully given one and all red cards, therefore reducing it to a game of fewer than 7 a side, resulting in it having to be called off? Just a thought.

You might find that the penalty to be imposed for a red card would be under the jurisdiction of the County F.A. and they might all have to serve a 35 day ban. That wouldn't do the Iron's championship hopes a power of good.
