Next Season

So.. we have about 7 or 8 more "home" games til the end of the season, and as far as I am aware still no news as to where we are going to play next season. I was thinking before we entered into the groundshare with Windsor didn`t the club ask the fans where they would prefer to play. would it be possible to do like a player of the month vote before a home game, but with some viable options and gage peoples opinions on where the fans would like us to play next season. only viable options should be on the list to choose from.

Surely that would involve the club having to do some work, negociate deals with local clubs that would have us and then present the list? i.e. if we had the chance of staying at Windsor for £25k or moving to Harrow, for example, for £10k would that cost make the difference?

That's right Richie.

I would like to think the club is working on this and Roy has hinted that he is in the local papers. Unfortunately, as always, the supporters will probably be the last to know.

The vote conducted by Martyn Deaner over a choice between Windsor and Harrow was a farce. Nobody in their right mind would have gone for Harrow.

We'll be at windsor, i think we should just stay there, but instead of 25k a year why not put all the money staright to ground improvements so we can feel we have contributed, then at least the money wont be spent on any more mediocre sitcom stars who once played for their school team. A bonus for both teams.

I know other will disagree, but It would be great if the club could get in touch with about a possible return to Wexham Park.

I'd love us to have a pitch and a "home" ground where we were not sharing facilities - nomatter if we did not own it.

Yes I know it would need a LOT of work done on the terracing and people will have reservations about where certain money goes, but it's a place I grew-up watching Slough play and would love to return there.

There's a loophole as Mr Turvey has said where we don't need that guarentee of playing there for 'x' years there so that would be my vote if somehow someone could agree a deal with the owner of the Park.

I would much prefer to go back to Wexham Park. What we need is an appropriate deal with Mr. Thorne that will give us an opportunity to earn money via the bar and facilities.

Failing this a deal with the council to allow us to have a temporary licensed clubhouse within the borough and close to Wexham Park is an option. The land in and around Wexham Parish Hall is close enough and is in the borough.

There you go, that's kicked off the debate!!

Oh blimey, here we go again....what motivation does Byron Thorne have to let us play at Wexham Park? You can imagine the phone call.....

STFC: "Hello Byron, it's STFC, can we play at Wexham Park?".

Byron: "Err, why should I let you?"

STFC: "We'll pay you some money."

Byron: "Are you going to pay me the money you still owe me from last time?"

STFC: "Yes, and we'll pay up front this time."

Byron: "Not bothered about money, the site is an asset of the business and depreciated down to nothing so it doesn't cost me anything anyway."

STFC: "And can we have the bar takings as well?"

Byron: "Are you taking the p*ss?"

STFC: "Well, you're obliged to let us play there."

Byron: "No I'm not. My obligations to let STFC play there stopped when I bought the freehold off the council."

STFC: "But it's our home. It's morally right that we play there."

Byron: "You are taking the p*ss aren't you? Why should I let you back when all I'll get is grief when I want you to leave again?"

STFC: "Don't you love the club?"

Byron: "No, never did."

STFC: "How about a free season ticket and a replica shirt?"

Click, brrrrrrrrrrrrr.

As much as it would be nice to go back there:

1) Have you seen how much work need to be carried out on the ground to get it up to standard.

2) Wouldn't this not distract from the long term goal of gaining a new ground in slough capable of supportina team up till the conference or above?

This arguement has been seen time and time again. Lets just pray we hear some news regarding Colnbrooke *fingers crossed* and that we have a team next season without the usual summer of despair.

sorry but Tom is right, the plastic covering above some of the seats is cracked, the concrete seems to be breaking up, most of the wooden fencing is rotting away, the crush barriers behind the goal seem to have vanished and thats nothing of whats happened to the electrics and water pipes in the changing rooms

Yes ... The trust has been trying to get in touch with Byron thorne...awaiting a letter sent via his solicitor... still no answer...

we will try every avenue to speak to Byron and see what the future holds for a return to Wexham Park..maybe not this coming year but maybe one day..never give up hope...remember at the moment this might be our only option to get back to slough...if the council does not care we have to be seen to sort this problem out ourselves...

Wexham Park ...could be returned to some order quiet quickly if everyone was prepared to do some work...

fingers crossed... that at least we get to speak to Byron and let you all know what may happen...

Chris - Martin - Graham - Ian will be meeting very soon to discuse the tack we will use in the forthcoming election to put our case forward for a new ground or help to return to wexham park with help or re ownership ??

cheers chris sliski...

all avenues must be followed up...

Im guessing it would be in the region of 25-50k to sort out WP which is still noly 2 yrs ground rent at W&E but the prob is i cant see us being given it, and i cant see us ever affording it, so realistically the best we will get is a short term deal where we have it til he can sell the land then we are back on our arses again..

I don’t see what harm asking does. He says no – end of story…

As for the possible new ground in Slough, well I think we have to be realistic. Does anyone really think we will get a new stadium even if we do actually get offered some ground in Colnbrook? I don’t personally think so…

As Chris S says it could take more effort than money to get WP up and running and getting the side back in Slough would hopefully push the attendances back towards the 500 mark, which would hopefully make-up for any costings that we incurred. Also if Leyton can get away with that ground it may not need that much work?

im sure there would be some willing volunteers to help put the ground back together again if we could convince him to allow us to play there again, only problem would be when he decides to kick us out all that work would be wasted

No, Roger, I don't know if he is still owed money. I was adopting your usually cynical attitude. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to return to WP, just cannot see what motivation Byron has for allowing it.

I wandered around WP before we left on Saturday morning. Although it's looking a little sorry for itself, it's in a better state of repair than Hendon's ground.
