AFC Wimbledon v Slough Town: MATCH THREAD

Reading their forum just reinforces my view of what I think of them. Apparently they should be beating "teams like us" and some of their fans are almost suicidal at the thought of "having to spend another season in this league".

The whole club is under the impression that they deserve to be somewhere they aren't and cannot handle the truth that they are just a little club with a big (cardboard cutout) fanbase who couldn't even beat little old Slough. Bo**ocks to them. I hope they suffer at "this level" for bloody years.

Hi Congrats on clawing back 2 goals. Don't listen to the moaners on the AFCW guestbook that go on about how they should be beating teams like Slough. Would have been harsh if you never got a point from that game. Once your first goal went in I think you were on top of the game. Personally, I am happy to have gone away with a draw.

Good luck for the rest of the season

I am an AFC fan and I will have to say that the views represented on our guestboard are not wholly representative. As you know, there were 2900 people there today, most of whom support the club every Saturday and bring in £1000s to help repay our massive ground-debt. We are certainly not cardboard fans. If we stay in this league for years it will be because we are not good enough on the pitch to get out of it. Those people suggesting that we are 'too good' or 'too big' for this division will need to extract their heads from their arses. It is what it is and I for one am proud that we have taken our club so far in such a short time. Whilst we all want promotion I will be more than happy to play Slough again for as long as it takes...and hopefully somewhere on Wexham Road (which would be excellent for me as I live at the High Street end of it!)

Chris.

Chris B99 - why not support your local club then? otherwise you are just as hypercritical as these chelsea, arsenal, and man u fans who live in berkshire!

This coming from the Slough fan that lives in Staines <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

Seriously though, I don’t believe it is right to call him a hypocrite, he has every right to support who he likes and may be supporting his team for any number of reasons. And at least he is putting money into non league and not the pockets of Premiership teams.

Gareth was outstanding yet again - best player on the pitch. We starting to gell now I feel after a difficult start to the season. The players are getting to know each other and performances have been much better.

Just need to get a bit of belief in the side as apart from Billericay nobody in this league had played us off the park. It sometimes takes us a goal to get that belief though.

Great stuff today though considering we were without our 3 first choice midfielders, Alexis going off injured and Mason and Hodges playing when they probably should not with their injuries a great result.

Dont know why the Wimbledon lot are whining, if it hadnt been for the ref (3 punches in the back on the head and the little [****!!****] 5 that aimed a stamp at Alexis- Gary can confirm this on hiss footage should both have gone- they also started to leave feet in late when it was 2-1 and when our palyers are being dragged into the advertising hoardings and the ref doesnt do anything- you have to worry!) IMHO The ref missed 2 red cards and 3 yellows against Wimbledonwe would have quite easily won today against a very average Wimbledon team.... With them moaning about another season in 'this league' its quite ironic, i have now seen EVERY team in this league play and they are a typical upper mid table team- the only difference is the support the get.

Thorughly enjoyed the second half comeback and for spells in the game we were on top and could have snatched all three points. A point was the very least we deserved. Gareth is sensational.

Enjoyed the supporters match beforehand - thanks to both teams - a game played in the right spirit. Just goes to show there are plenty of decent AFC fans.

I have several gripes with AFC though:

Why is it £9 to get in? Why is the programme and the beer so expensive? And why don't you understand segregation? If a game is to be segregated do it properly. That means a section for away fans without a constant stream of home fans marching in front of us for the full ninety minutes to enjoy the tea bar, clubhouse or crapper. I would rather have no segregation at all than that shambles. Also why is that the vast majority of stewards and police felt it was necessary to stare at the Slough fans for the full ninety minutes when we were outnumbered ten to one. And why did you lot make no noise at all - ever.

And please stop adopting Wimbledon's history. That club has ceased to be and you are a new club filling a vacuum. Unlike what it says in the programme Keith Curle has not played for you and both Bristol clubs.

Personally it seems to me that you are well on the way to being a league club already with the attitude of some and the conditions in "your" ground. The non league spirit seems to be ebbing away.

I was incensed about the segregation it was [****!!****] and i am intending to write a complaint, we were segregated a load of wimbledon fans weren't.... we had to stay in out little shitty pen and if we ventured near the holy tape, we were told to stop, whilst 100's of them wer happily wandering through to buy coffee chips etc... THEY NEED ANOTHER SNACK BAR.... Segregation is to prevent crowd trouble, so why let the Wimbledon lot wander through our area. if they were a malicious bunch (not likely as the majority seemed apathetic and more interested in food)they could easily have started trouble in our bit. It [****!!****] me off big style.
