The rest of the season

So - Liam feels we need 11 wins in 18 games to get in the playoffs - can we do that, and if we do, will it be enough?

 

Of the remaining fixtures, games we would hope to win are probably :-

 

FGR (A), Scarborough (H), Crawley (H), Tamworth (H), Aldershot (H), Woking (H), Burton (H), Altrincham (A), Southport(A).

 

If (and its a big if I know), we win those, thats 9 wins & according to Liam's thoughts we'd need 2 more wins.

 

Cambridge (A - today) is one possibility as is Kidderminster (A) in 2 weeks.

 

Apart from those, we need to improve our record against the other top teams, if we are to gain a play off place - Accy, Hereford and Grays at Home are games we simply cant afford to lose - Halifax, York, Stevenage and Morecambe away are all games, I would hope we could get draws from, but I guess we will do well to remain unbeaten in those 4 in reality.

 

Being optimistic, I think we can get the 11 wins that Liam wants and potentially edge into the playoffs.

 

Being realistic, 11 wins is a tough ask, and I suspect we'll slip up in at least 1 of those games we'd hope to win and on Liams basis, we'd probably just miss the playoffs.

You're "being realistic" option is easily the best thing that could happen. Interest is maintained which keeps the gates up & hopefully persuades some of the casuals to become permanent.

 

If we made the play offs, anything could happen over 3 matches & we all know we're not ready for the Football League yet. (We could hardly will ourselves to lose, yet promotion could ruin us.)

Our record against the Top 6 this season isnt great - thats what I meant by improving our record against the top teams.

(That said,I've just checked and we've won 2 and lost 1 at home - away we've drawn 2 and lost 2. So the home record breeds hope)
