Further news on Stockport tickets

Why would a bloke from Leeds be able to help with a Stockport accent? What have whippets got to do with Lancashire (I think you'll find that most Yorkshiremen and Lancastrians would probably object to being lumped together - they even fought a war to prove it at one point)? And, just in case you're interested, if you've got this far, the bit I come from is separate again, just north of the Stockport bit, but just south of the scottish bit. Here endeth the geography lesson. Good grief. It's hard to be a northerner in the City, as Springsteen almost once said.

Hi HB.

Firstly, I know what a whippet is. I also know what pigeons are, and I've heard that every house north of The Watford Gap but south of Hadrians Wall has a shed thing in the back yard with a chicken wire extension [that's an extension to the shed not an extension to the back yard] in which they keep pigeons. I don't know what they do with them, mind.

Anyway. Back to Leeds. If you were about to speak to an Italian and you couldn't speak Italian, it would make sense to have an Italian who could speak English to translate. If an Italian was not readily available but, say, an Austrian was, it would make sense to have the Austrian available as the language barriers are lowest between adjoining countries. Cross border trade and all that.

That's it.

Hi HB.

I don't know about digging, HB, but I do know that Stockport is in Greater Manchester, rather than Lancashire.

Having said that, fair play, if I lived in the centre of Manchester, I would consider myself Lancastrian rather than a native of Greater Manchester. Wars of the Roses. History. Cricket. This Metropolitan Borough stuff isn't my cup of tea. I'm a bit of a traditionalist on the quiet although I like to give the impression of liberal post-modernism.

Your reference to digging prompted a thought about allottments but I'll save that for another day.
