just phoned stadium up, to ask about the game tonite, was told the secretary Roly Edwards was arriving at the ground at 11am to asses the condition of the pitch and wether it is neccesary to call in a local referee to conduct a pitch inspection....

Temperature is due to rise to 2-3 C this afternoon. In the sun the pitch will probably thaw, in the shade, alongside the road , it may well stay hard. Temperaturee will plummet to -3C this evening.

Whatever a local ref decides this afternoon, the pitch,like the Crawley game,will be completely different at 19:45!!

What this means though is that a local ref can NOT call the match off only the match Ref can do that.

 

If it is necessary Roly will most likely call up Steve Bennet, who lives local, and then he will come down to inspect things then if he thinks it's right he will call the match ref and advise him to call the match off.

This a no win situation for both the Fleet and a local or a match ref.

Even if the pitch is passed playable before the game, I for one would not be surprised if the pitch iced up during the game, causing it's abandonment.

At least that will be the "hottest" time of the day. If the game is going to be on, by inspecting it at that time give it the best chance.

Will the pitch inspection at 1:30 be conducted by the match ref and have any bearing on wether the game is on or off, cos im planning to travel from wycombe for the game tonight.

At least I found out this time it was off before I went....

 

Credit though must be given to everyone involved with the club including the ref for the early call off, especially after the Crawley palava.

So the late Crawley postponement was the club's fault, was it? At least, that's what could be inferred from that statement.
