All Time Best Calder XI

Simon BTFC

Recommended Posts

Somebody asked how many players GC has signed and released during his spell at BTFC. I can't be bothered to work it out, but how about this...

What is your best ever Calder XI? - a team of players to have played during his time at the club. No one game wonders or loan signings pemitted (unless they later sign fully)

Haven't worked mine out yet.......

Here's mine (with comments)

Goal - JJ. No question he's better than Gavin.

Defense

RB - Penn. Again not much competition here. Dicko always looked happier in the middle and Dave McD hasn't done enough to convince

LB - Kerrigan. Not many orthodox left backs in recent seasons, only Kevin Jordan and Nicky Savidge spring to mind. Oh and Glenn Southgate.

CBs Moore and Woolsey - Bit of a tough one this, Moore for definate but Dicko, Culverhouse and co could partner him, or play Penn in the middle.

Midfield

LW - Justin Gentle. Excellent crosser of the ball.

RW - Mark Graham. Don't worry I havn't ignored Joe.....

CMs - Willo and Linger. Tough one this as arguably one of our weaker areas. Carthy and Parratt were also considered....

Forwards

Baker and Simpson. Would have played Baker on the wing, but in his best season he mostly played up front. Simpson always gave 100% which not many others (KK, Dunwell, Browne) could claim. Roy or DJ (if he signs) could stake a claim this season as another weak area in past seasons.

Subs

King (GK)

Dickinson

Carthy

Simba

Browne

Well that would certainly be our shortest ever midfield with Deano and Linger in there. One of the reasons I left Deano out of my XI was that I felt he played his best football for us during the previous season. Would certainly stake a claim for a place in my "all time BTFC XI in my years as a fan" side...

I just think that Mark Graham is a better all round player.

If I was the manager, he would get a game (or part of one) as in this day and age the game is won be using your subs.

I would tell either Gentle or Graham to go flat out at the defence. If it gets results, they get knackered, use Baker. if it doesn't and we need to change it, use Baker. And sometimes, bench Gentle or M. Graham.

Variety is the spice of life (so they tell me).
