Midfield dilemma

Recommended Posts

Saunders will hopefully be back Tuesday. Not too sure of where his is fitness wise (I know he has a back injury) so I'm not sure when he'll be back.

Ideally I'd have Jacko, Slatts, Bowry and Saunders with Drury as the advanced midfielder and three, R Smith, McCarthy and Watkins, at the back and put Charlie Mac and Luke Moore up front. You have to hit Grays with pace.

Fiddling with the defence after a clean sheet? Controversial!

Have we kept two clean sheets in a row this season? Morecambe and Burton (and then Thurrock) but Morecambe were never going to score and Holloway was superman the day we played Burton.

We shouldn't sit back and invite Grays onto us when we played them it took them about 35-40 minutes before they scored in that time we had three chances to score. Grays take a long time to start up lets put three past them before they even get out of the changing rooms.

I'm not convinced that a new loan defender, regardles of his pedigree, is ideal to debut against a team with Grays pace up front (Kightly,Oli,Slabber, McClean spring to mind).

If we are lacking in pace, it is with MacCarthy, who obviates this with his positional play and reading of the game. It may be he just has to sit a little deeper on Tuesday to give himself a bit more time.

I would go 4-4-2 still - the time for experimenting with formations is not during important league games against free scoring local rivals in front of potentially the biggest game of the season so far, especially on the back of a really good all round performance.
