Slough v Margate Match Thread

If the ref hadn't been so quick to get between Gareth and the Margate players - then yes, we could have seen 10 vs 10 or even 10 vs 9 for the remainder of the game. But I guess that's part of their job, to calm things down after the incident and prevent further trouble. I'm not saying he had a faultless game though, as there were incidents where he might have been less lenient with Margate players.

A good end-to-end game of football yesterday. Shame we were missing Hodgey but Seedel had one of his best games since Worthing away last season. A battling draw given that we lost Wilko very early on and had McCleary sent off (and it looked like a fair enough red card to me). If McCleary had stayed on, I could have seen him scoring again and us going on to win. That's life though, and we didn't hold out for the draw even with 10 men. Our lack of efforts on goal is still telling though.

Roll on Wimbledon next Saturday, a large away following, a good atmosphere, and a good result.

Exactly, just like Gravesend last season, but this time under cover. Looking forward to it, and especially with people on here saying they're bringing friends etc, we should have a following of at least 200 I would say. Certainly 150 at the very, very least.

I must say I thoroughly enjoyed visiting you guys yesterday.

As has been said, a good match with end to end play, some spicy encounters on the pitch, good home and away support, an extremely nice bunch of hospitable people, and very good weather.

I sympathise with your ground predicament, as we have been there, and it is not pleasant. I hope you get it sorted out, because you lot deserve a much better arena, in your home town, for your sport.

Here's to some more encounters like this next season, and good luck to the end of this one.

[quoteHad Margate taken their first-half chances you'd be 3 down after 20 mins. Can't believe some joker above said it was a harsh sending off. Worst two-footed challenge I've seen in a long time. Crap ground. Hope you're back in Slough soon.

Err read the reasons Mr special boy that i've put why it should have not been a sending-off. I'd defend this all-day if I have to as I had a great view.

Yes he's rash and jumps in and guess looks bad from a different angle and can understand why he was sent-off, but it's not two-footed, high, malicious etc... (basically what I have said before)

If I think it was a red i'd say it, like when we played Heybridge away a few weeks back. Woodruffe should have been sent-off for two yellows.

thought yesterday was a great game atmosphere wise, great to see away fans who actually chant and create some noise... and the few i chatted to at the burger bar seemed very nice

re: mcCleary's sending off.... from behind the goal it did look a bit malicious to be hoesnt and the fact that eddie didn't seem to go mad at the ref for the decision seems to indicate he thought it was a fair cop, but it was disgraceful for the ref to not send no8 of margate off as well

but, as has been said before, fair play to the boys for playing as hard as they did afterwards, i was pleasantly surprised to see us actally challenging for the win despite being one man down - that shows real character in a team especially at this level.

Seedel was brilliant yesterday and as usual J and Ballard were making a nuisance of themselves which is always good to see... having said that can't wait to see Hodges, Wilko and eventually Metcalfe back.

On a completely different note, anyone who hasn't bought gary's season 2004-5 dvd yet -GO BUY IT! Marcus and I had such a laugh last night remembering all those great matches... and of course Dom looking like a right eed-jit at Billericay...

I gather he's told you already Gaz, but i'll bring a tenner with me on saturday for one

Holding out for a draw. Don't be a plum. We should have killed you lot off before half-time

How can you hold out for a draw in the FIRST half? Holding out for a draw refers to the end of the game not the beginning. Who's really the plum?

Also see that the Brentford keeper (Bankole) got taken off Saturday injured and replaced by Stuart Nelson.

Seeing as Clark Masters is their third choice I guess there is a chance he could be recalled for their FA Cup game Saturday, which will be disappointing as he has been excellent the last three games (bar the Avery mix-up). Mind you if that does happen at least we have a quality replacement in Parkin.
