Slough v Margate Match Thread

Well, to be honest, it doesn't in the situation of a truly shocking challenge (i.e. Keane on Bohinen), but in this circumstance I think it was a rash tackel, but a genuine attempt to get the ball and I just feel it was a harsh decision. I may be wrong; but that's how I saw it from where I was standing. Will be interested in seeing the replay though!

Nice report it is always nice to read the oppositions thoughts on the game. Yes we hope we stay up as well as I seem to rember you brought a good few supporters down earlier this season.

Looking forward to see the highlights.

Good luck for the rest of the season.

excellent performance especially the second half, seedal easily my MOTM, followed by ballard who looked very dangerous going forward.

looking back i must say the sending off was fair, was a dangerous tackle, but it could have been avoided if the ref had given one of the two fouls a few seconds before.

i think once we stopped using seedal as a target man and started playing it through or to his feet he looked amazing, he has good pace for a guy his size and had the defence scared.

two good goals from mccleary as well, thanks to the keeper for being so rubbish <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

It's wierd with Seedel. Last season when he played up front with Matt Murphy he played really well and when he has played up with Gareth McCleary like today and Leatherhead he's played good.

Yet when he plays up with Hodgie he struggles and they don't work well together - very strange.

Enjoyed the game had some moments to saviour and forget ! lots of action, the sending off was about right, however tell me how can someone push a player with 2 hands raised and make him fall over and not get sent off ! incredible...the ref got that one totally wrong i have to say...

Great to see Slough even down to 10 men battle away and even tried to win the game ! great stuff in the 2nd half !!

Another point towards the 46 we need IMO to beat the drop !

Poor gareth did not get his chance to get his hat trick , because if he had stayed on I think we would have just pip the points from Margate.

well done rebels...

Enjoyed the game, especially the second half. Good to see Ballard getting quicker. He looks really motivated. Also Woody looked decisive and fit, and Josias made a difference when he came on. He probably ought to be on from the start if he's fit, let's face it.

Our main problem (IMHO) is we only have one plan for getting from defence to attack : Lump It. We hardly ever progress up field in a controlled way - even compared to Margate for instance. Nine times out of ten the ball is launched into a vague area of the field for Ryan Giggs or Sean Wright-Phillips to run onto.

Only they don't play for us.

This is what I think Eddie should work on anyway.

Thought we deserved the win today. We were by far the better team in the first half despite the own goal.

The sending off of McCleary I think was the reason we didn't win today. The attack dosn't function as a unit without him despite the obvious amount of effort shown by Matt Seedel.

Heres hoping Ian hodges makes a quick recovery.

The reaction of the Margate players was the biggest contributing factor to the card being red. How number 8 stayed on the pitch after manhandling the referee to get at McCleary is a disgrace. Margate were happiest to hold out for the draw and I was very proud that we were the one's going for the win towards the end. Fair play to Matty seedal, a superb second half performance.

PS. Apparently the Thames whale had convulsions and died after it heard where they were planning to release it......near Margate. I think I'd have taken the death option too.

Maybe we were the ones pushing forwards towards the end, but once again, which team worked the opposing goalkeeper the most? Wasn't us... as per usual. It seems that every time we create a shooting chance, we score, which is good in some respects, but means we're not creating enough IMO.

Even Chris Kinnear and the Margate bench agreed that their number 8 should have been sent off. His reaction at the instant the incident took place was to throw his water bottle to the ground and shout "What a ...., he's walking for that'

By rights, by the rules of the game, it should have been 10 v 9 men at the end.

On the bright side, I thought that we played the best football for a long time just before we went to 10, and then were resiliant afterwards. It seemed to bring Seedel to life.

Apart from the mishap at the start for the own goal, that was a good performance.

Lets keep it up for AFC

Thought it was good end to end game of football, helped by Margate actually having some fans that got an atmosphere going at Slug Meadow for once.

McCleary is different class, and for someone who has critical of Matt Seedel recently, have to stay he was storming in the second half and started using his weight to try and go through defenders.

Think a draw was a fair result - hope Margate stay up.

Will Hodges, Wilko and McCleary miss the Wimbledon match?

According to the rules, he will be available.

This is the one that covers it

"A player who is dismissed from the Field of Play for Violent Conduct, Serious Foul Play or spitting at an opponent or any other person whether he has previously been cautioned in the match or not, will be suspended automatically from all domestic League, League Cup, FA Challenge Cup matches and Friendly matches commencing on the 14th day following the match in which he was sent off and until such time as his Club's recognised Senior Team has completed three (3) matches in approved Competitions"

I can't recall G ever being booked for us before so this was certainly out of character.

While I obviously don't want to see one of our players getting hit, the fact the referee through himself between G and their baying mob was the only thing that kept some of their players on the pitch and I'm not sure that can be right
