Much much better!

Recommended Posts

2-0 and the result was rarely in doubt.

Canvey offered little and it could have been 6-0 with better finishing.

'Chip it Charlie'.....and eventually he did to put the result beyond doubt.

A few dodgy moments that a better team might have punished but it wasn't, it was Canvey.

Needless double yellow for dissent - hopefully Liam will stamp that quickly.

On to Tuesday and probably a bigger test, although Grays don't appear to be the team that outclassed us at the start of the season.

What a great game! At last, Daish started with Moore and I think he really showed what a skilful player he can be, although he could have scored when he was one on one with the goalkeeper.

Drury started really well, he got stuck in, made some great tackles although he faded a little in the second half.

Danny Slatter deserved to be Man of the Match, what a great run he had Charlie should have scored a goal from that superb cross, but nonetheless Charlie had a good game and got us that goal that secured our 3 points.

Canvey were a bit rubbish.. I think they should sack the goalkeeper for a start!

Anyways, it was a great game and there was a great atmosphere tonight, it was good to arrive at the ground and see so many people there.

Double yellow for kicking the ball away, wasn't it? Ridiculous decision. OK, the ref is playing to the letter of the law, but how many of them play to the letter of the law every game? The second yellow in particular was terrible. Johnson was in the thick of the action as the ref's whistle went and thumped the ball forward to clear it. To get sent off for that was criminal!

....and they all lived happily ever after ?!

Hope Liam has apologised personally to Riverview Red for spoiling his weekend !

Good performance last night. Canvey keeper made some good saves otherwise it could have easily been 4 or 5. Thought Luke Moore had an excellent game !!....& a decent crowd, as has already been mentioned.

Same again on Tuesday please.

Cheers,

The thread title says it all. Last week I really laid into Brian, Liam and the team in general, and I stand by my comments. However, it was refreshing to see that the team could bounce back from such a lack lustre and shoddy performance like Boreham.

This was the first game I'd seen where Luke Moore had made such an impact. How he didn't get MOM, I don't know, and how he and Charlie didn't get at least a brace each is unbelievable.

Hope we can put as strong a performance in against Grays on Tuesday. A point would be good, but three would be brilliant.

Glad to see that the Friday night fixture improved the gate so much, although I don't think it would work on a regular basis. Especially pleased that both Charlie and Ross have signed new contracts, hopefully more will follow.

FLEETASTIC, last night was so so so much better, even when we went down to 10. we were the better side and really it could of been 5/6. We just got to take our chances thats all.

What a difference Luke Moore makes, Coleman is going now on tuesday.

WELL DONE BRING ON GRAYS!!!

Agreed, there were positives a plenty last night. Aside from the good turnout, the team put in a decent performance and the combination up front of MacDonald and Moore looks very exciting. A big target man is still needed though to combat some defences in this league.

Brian's column in the programme was also very informative and made interesting reading; commenting on the Northfleet End Saga and hinting that a New Stadium could be as little as 3 years away.

A few old faces there last night too, including Ford, Lee Turner and Dean Wells - used too go up and down the left flank at lightning speed.

Were there any Cheerleaders? Arrived late so missed out on that.

Seeing as everyone's in such a buoyant mood, programme notes read thus Alan:

Northfleet End:

---------------

The Northfleet End saga continues but we are close to getting the final design and quotes in that we need to submit to the Football Foundation in order to start the work. I would love to give you a date but we have had so many problems I do not want to tempt fate. The approvals required plus the design and safety issues that have been involved and the time it has taken to find a solution has been a real negative this season. We apologise for the affect this has had on you the fans, but, like the players, all we can do is our best and we have done so.

New Stadium

-----------

Talks on a new stadium continue apace and remain very positive. We believe it is now a case of when we play at a new ground rather than if we do. Our aim is to do that as soon as possible and ideally within three years. However, these things are not straightforward and if it takes longer to get the right stadium in the right place then we will have to wait. We have some sites we have identified and are following up on their feasibility as well as talking to potential development partners. In the meantime, our newly-negotiated 20 year lease on Stonebridge Road gives the club security and our landlords are happy for us to terminate the lease once we are in a position to move.

It was a shame that Luke didn't get the goal his performance deserved but an excellent three points especially playing with ten men for so long.

A great pass to set up Charlie for the second goal from Ashley Fuller, Slatts played better than he has since the Southport match, Charlie and Luke were excellent as were Ross and Jacko. Drury was chasing back and working hard and Holloway was faultless.

Ok Canvey weren't the best opposition but they aren't the worst in this league either and to create so many chances in the second half and also not to make a knee jerk substitution following the sending off was a bloody good performance by Liam.

Obviously it wasn't a good night for those who would rather moan than cheer, or for those who wanted to condemn the Friday night experiment without giving it a chance but for the rest of us it was bloody brilliant.

Excellent performance - exactly what I've been asking for:

1. Jacko in the starting line up

2. Luke in the team instead of Coleman

3. Hodgson dropped

4. Playing the ball on the deck for a fast good footballing forwards, rather than long high balls

5. Only one loan player on show (and he went after 51 mins !)

Superb !

Maybe Liam has been reading and learning from the comments on this forum ?

And far from spoil my weekend Hirsty, its made it - I want us to win every game and progress !
