That's a lot better!!

Recommended Posts

For the first time in living memory, we responded to a big crowd by putting on a show that rose well above mediocre.

Another solid performance by the defence, ably helped by an insipid and lacklustre Canvey forward line.

Good scapping display by the midfield, except for too much showboating by Drury in the second half, and too much flopping around with apparent broken ankles!!

Johnson must consider himself unlucky for his 2 yellows from the over zealous fusspot of a ref. He will learn that to kick the ball away once in front of an idiot in black is careless, to do it twice is descending to the refs level of intelligence.

At last Charlie has found a strike partner of genuine quality, whom he actually seems to enjoy playing alongside. Luke and Mac ran after every ball, even when it was a lost cause, and gave Canvey's 5 man defence no rest all night. With a little bit of luck , and some of Charlie's experience, Luke will no doubt score a lot of goals for us. Nearly every touch (apart from the finishing) was of high class, and both he and Charlie clearly enjoyed our pattern of play, chasing long low diagonal passes to feet in the inside channels. With luck on our side we could have had 4 or 5 goals tonite.

All in all a good, solid team effort, and a BIG well done to Liam for getting the attitude of the team spot on. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

also Gooding played well a double block in the first half from a free kick was superb,Moore is an amazing talent who linked well with Charlie

Without wishing to detract from the show last night - which was great entertainment, why has it taken 24 games for Luke to get only his second league start of the season, when it is clear to everyone that he is an exceptionally talented young player of massive potential?
He will learn very little keeping the bench warm for 85 minutes each game.
He will come on leaps and bounds playing alongside Charlie - judging by the smiles on their faces they clearly enjoyed playing alongside each other.

Steady on - the potential's there, but as you acknowledge further down your post, we'll have to see how clinical his finishing is with time before such a description can be made. Nonetheless, his closing down and endless running is an improvement on the previous forward pairing.

Potential is there, but he is still a bit lightweight on occasions, in my opinion. Remember Charlie out muscling the Morecambe defender for our winner against them? Luke will need to be able to do that too. I prescribe:

3 bowls of porridge a day

3 pints of Guinness a day (but not between training sessions!)

3 sessions in the weights room per week, at least

Continue with the speed, fitness & stamina training as normal, but learn to swim butterfly & do at least 1 set of 12 x 25 metres repetitions per day.

A once fit EC
