The Trust - seperate thread

Can I just ask why some more of you people did not try and join the Trust board then?

I think the board memebers all do a decent job in difficult circumstances but with the exception of myself, Radders and Dom it is the same faces that have been involved for years.

Personally I think it would be healthy to have twenty people apply to be on the board - so that there can be a proper election and the members can be held accountable. As it stands there is lots of dissatisfaction with the board but if we were all to chose to jack it in who would step in to replace the members? And would anyone know where to start?

When I joined part of my aim was to help modernise the trust albeit by a process of evolution rather than revolution. I thought that others would be part of this - as it turns out some people I expected to stand for the board did not and others have subsequently resigned for various reasons. So nothing is changing.

And to answer the question the board meetings are very much like these threads with discussions of ideas and "news". The people with the various jobs i.e. accounts, junior rebels and membership - report.

I also think changing to a trust has left people expecting us to forge closer links with the club but for whatever reason the club decides to keep certain things private.

I also am getting really tired of this debate rearing its head every six weeks. So what are we going to do?

Third rant of the day on this subject over.

Can I just cofirm then Nibbler that you think the purpose of the trust is to increase the attendances? And how the [****!!****] are we suppossed to do that? I am not sure there is a more football apathetic town in the country then Slough. Of the football supporters who live here they either head into London for their live football or watch the evil that is Sky.

I have suggested this at Trust meeting and nothing ever came of it. And I'll be [****!!****] if I am paying for it out of my own pocket.

I personally do not think it is the job of the trust to increase the club's attendance and I am not sure where that idea comes from.

Effectively we had someone do that on our behalf (Cancer Research) prior to the Harrow match. What was the impact on the attendance? Down 40 on the corresponding fixture from last season (Dover at home). The feedback from the schools was that hardly anyone knew of us, and despite it being a very worthy cause, not many tickets were actually sold and used sadly.

One off ticket/flyer distributions will not work. A concerted effort to do this on a regular basis and drum it in to people will have a far greater effect, especially if there's something in it for them.

Exactly. There is no general interest in the town. We need to be prepared to do 6,000 flyers to the same 6,000 people week on week. Will it be cost effective? No. The trust would have to pay for it and will not see any return on it. Is that what members want to see there money spent on?

As you know Liam, six of us walked sixty odd miles last year. The aim to raise public awareness and build community links. We were plastered all over the local rags and raised two grand for a local charity. What did the club get for it? Bugger all. Did we ever see the women from EBWA supporting us again. Of course not. Was it worth it? Personally I think yes. As a trust exercise? Probably not.

To be honest though I have been feeling down on the trust for months and it is much easier to snipe from the sides so I think I will be calling it a day come the next meeting.

Nibbler... go ahead produce the 6000 leaflets I will personally pay for the printing of the leaflets then get your team together and put your ideas to people...I don't have a problem with that...

As for publicity.. Cancer reasearch were the party involved to do the publicity re this event...The guy who push the idea...went to 20 plus school's in and around Slough, posters were erected tickets were given out and he in fact reported lots of schools were not interested !

He managed in my opion to get approx extra 40 yougsters along that day ! a good start I think's!

Hope some of them will return...I know personally that some of the ones that attended from Wexham Primary will return...they enjoyed the game..so little by little things can be done...we know..

So nibbler good luck with your hand outs... name a day and your plan of action and we will try to arrange a working party to help you.

As for Matts questions, Matt I personally have links with Fred Parson's at The Express and as you asked this 4 weeks ago about starting a link with the Express this gets done regularly every wednesday, but remember the press will only put in what they want to...Gary at the Observer calls me regular also... so we are not sitting on ours hands all the time..

Martin makes very good points in his answer, and his frustrations are clear and for one don't want him to resign, for God sake we need people like Martin to give us new ideas and views, and also to pull others with us..Its a very hard task to steer a ship with big holes in its hull ! we have to pull together and knocking people who work for nothing and they tries their best...If their best is not good enough then you should stand and replace them....

You have's your chance !

you're alright Chris. I've been told that leaflets and flyers don't work, one of the board members have told that the idea was brought up and nothing ever came of it, and the trust has no idea what it's supposed to be doing. I therefore withdraw my offer, now go and get the 'braintrust' together and think of what the trust is supposed to be doing with regards to the club and then you might find more people willing to help.

what's Janik got to do with this? He had an agenda, he stuck to it and succeeded HOWEVER much you people don't like to admit.

Okay Chris, we need someone to design a flyer (I was thinking make the Windsor home game on Easter Monday as one game), a couple of other people to phone up half a dozen schools to make sure we can leave the leaflets at the school and finally half a dozen people to drop them off in teh run up to Easter. Simple no?

Leaflet drops are all well and good but we need an offer to add to the leaflet otherwise people wont react to it. I know there are tight fa rules on pricing but if we could lower the price of one of our matches to the lowest we could, say £5 and that would include entrance and one pint in the bar at half time and produce it in a cut out and keep voucher in the local paper. I know Maidenhead did something similar for one of their games a season or two ago and I know my cousin went as a direct result of this.
