The Trust - seperate thread

Guest

Recommended Posts

Having left many to air their views and concerns over the previous thread (southern league) why it ended up there heaven knows...

I have over 25 years , while secretary to the Association and now the Trust...

I do listern to what is being said and you all have good ideas and a grand view of what you all want...

But as I have said before on this subject and a point raised by Warren Brighton Rebel, if you want changes and you want this that and the other , please stand for the board..its not a closed shop and after 25years things do go stale and we need new ideas and help...its down to the members to vote and elect us...no one else...

Its so easy to critise, at times its like walking a mine field...but while I support my Team and enjoy what i do for the trust and kept in the job, i will try to do a good job for the Trust.

If I don't or my fellow board members elect us off and take up the challenge..

As to the point the Staines Rebel...One of the major applications for a trust and we have signed upto the charter , is to raise money for charities and promote ourselves in the community with fund raising and help.... a point as Ian has and the boys and girls who raise money for these causes.....

You did not have to contribute to any of theses causes , but to withdraw your support to the trust is also your decision...

it takes everyone to work to our end goal to ensure slough Town survives....being a part of this trust is at least one step to acheive this !

becuase when the time comes we will all need to play our part....

Nibbler ...you want to see our minutes of the meetings...no problem....

see me at the next match, also the newsletter was issued and will be issued 3 times a year to outline what we are doing...but as a trust that does not own the club or has a much trouble getting to grips with the cloak and dagger things...

could you tell us how we should go about a full take over on a team that costs at least 200,000 pounds to fund per season , when we have 15,000 pounds in the bank when people don't want to contribute to the trust...if the trust was not around what organisation will be there to take our place...

??????????????

Chris, please don't take this as criticism - just thinking out loud.

I'd have to agree that minutes from every meeting should be made available to Members ASAP. Can this be e-mailed to Members (saves on postage), and if not, made available at home games on production of membership cards? If putting the information on the Trust website is a no-no, what else can be done? A separate section where members can login? A Yahoo-style mailing list?

My main point is that criticism will always fly about if people feel they don't have access to information. If people can find out what's being brainstormed and agreed at Trust meetings, particularly what's going on with the Trust's sub-committees (for example advertising, or upcoming fundraisers and/or special offers at home games), then people can offer help in distributing fixture lists, or whatever, and this can be co-ordinated in some way.

From Don Juan DeMarcus on a previous thread.

"I think to put it in a nutshell the only place where our next fixture can be seen (CORRECTLY- SO THIS KNOCKS OUT THE OBSERVER) Is inside the ground! Or in the programme! Which is pretty [****!!****] useless if we are looking to get new people in. We need AD boards in SLOUGH- not fixture list- which are very regularly wrong due to date changes etc- and then the next question if ALLAH pops down and clicks his fingers and these appear who would keep them up to date? The trust or club? I agree with our frequently rude, aggressive and pissed Nibbler- The organisation of the club is shoddy- At best. Ians idea of co-ordinating the trust events is great- and Gary has done his best to get correct fixtures out to the wider audience but until the Club (whose job this should be -decides to do it themselves- its always going to be awkward) No criticism of Roy- who i reckon does a stirling job but we need someone in charge of fixtures someone in charge of charity stuff etc etc....and more importantly some offical liason between the club and trust!"

I have to agree that the club doesn't do a very good job of promoting itself, and it isn't clear if the Trust is supposed to fill the gap. There is no clear structure of who is responsible for what (press contact for instance). Offers of help seem to be turned away, and that really is worrying as whoever is organising advertising banners doesn't seem to have been successful enough to be able to turn down offers of help.

While there will be various opinions as to who should do what, it onus must be on the club to make its views known to the fans. Having Martin Deaner in no mans land cannot go on forever.

Valid points Matt...

At the agm ...we were asked to produce a newsletter..first issued...2 more to come..this season..

Mission Statement...post outside the supporters Hut....

Raise money into the trust funds...

Raise Slough trust within the community...

sponsored walk / sponsoring a junior side within the town.../fund raising (3 race nights and a christmas draw)

I agree we can be more forth coming with minutes.. but remember any time given up is spare time for the board members and we can only spare so much time....

cheers chris sliski

Who is responsible for sending information to the press? Is it a club or Trust matter? This is something I'd be willing to help with, for instance. On the Friday evening before the Harrow game, I e-mailed both Star FM and Radio Berkshire with information about the Cancer Research promotion because:

a) I wasn't sure if it had already been done, plus
B) I was frustrated by the lack of exposure in the local newspapers, and saw the radio stations as a last chance.

Arranging a charity event at a game is excellent, but it needs to be sufficiently advertised in the local press. I don't think the Harrow game was, and I think this was reflected in the attendance.

Again, this is me thinking out loud and not meant as criticism towards any individual.

I believe that the trust does some excellant work, and fully agree with Chris S when he points out that its all done by people in their spare time, so there has to be a limit to what can be expected.

One area where there has perhaps been a shortfall this year is in publicity. In August 2004 MD was asked what was the most important thing that fans could do. He replied that the most important thing was to raise attendances. A lot more could be done in this area.

Exactly. Someone needs to be co ordinating this. Waiting for the press to read this forum for information will not be effective. This is especially important in the case of the Express who rely on being spoon fed information, and when they are spoon fed a half decent story, will invariably print it.
