Raising the Cash

Burnham Lad

Recommended Posts

Given that we have to raise, let us say, £25k, and let us take 400 supporters for the sake of argument, that works out at £62.50 each - a lot of money for many, but it could be achievable if people undertook to raise it by whatever means they can - "Bob-a-Job", to nick the old Boy Scouts idea, sponsorships, raiding the piggy bank or whatever.

How about calling for pledges of say £50 from people (or lesser amounts if people feel they can raise something) - it is down to them how they raise it? Publicity could be offered for the most ingenious ideas to raise it, for the most money raised, for team efforts, all to encourage others to participate. Just needs a good slogan - "Save Simpson's Season" or is that provocative?

I'll stick my pledge in now, £50 and 10p for each other person who makes the £50 pledge.......

i dont think ill be able to, being a tax dodging pre uni pre work student!

my dads starting to wonder where that tenner he gave me to join the trust has really gone!

btw, im not sure that the couts fund raising type ideas work as well with a group of adults!

ive spent many years raising funds for the 1st Lent Rise and Dorney Scout Group, done things like car washes, bag packing at Sainsburys, sponsored walks, and stuff like that, but like i said not sure if it has the same effect with slough town fans! tongue

I'm not suggesting that we should JUST follow ideas such as you quote - the idea is that everybody raises something in the way that works for them. None of us has £500 let alone £25k to contribute, except possibly a rich few (please!) so the only hope we have is for us all to take on a little, and it means all of us. 400 of us raising an average of £50 each by whatever means, beg, borrow, collect, earn - whatever, and we are nearly there. If we don't, there is a serious possibility there will be no next season, unless somebody knows something the rest of us don't. Sorry to be blunt, but it is better to face it now, and try and do something whilst we have a little time, rather than be ringing our hands when Simpson consigns us to history in August with us saying "we wish we had know about this earlier - we might have been able to do something."

We have been in the Last Chance Saloon before, but for me this is starting to feel like it really is..

So let's not be defeatist, without even giving it a try. Unless perhaps we want to just watch Windsor, Burnham or Maidenhead next season............or AFC Slough in the Slough Industrial League.

Any supporters for this or shall I just shut up and watch the club die?

Last post by me in a while...

Now i know Deaner is hard to find at the best of times but wouldn't it be better if you could work together? For example you pay as much as possible he 'tops it up' to the £25k?

Good luck with your fund rasing and lets hope you don't need to use it it

So, do we need £20k or not? There does not seem to be much urgency about raising the cash, so do some folks know something the rest of us don't? There were rumours going round last night about work going on at Wexham Park.

Some folks seem to think there is nothing to worry about, but many like me haven't a clue what is going on. So what is the best estimate - do we need to get on raising cash as life and death or should we just not give a toss and see what happens?

If we do need to raise cash then we do need to get professional about it - £25K in a bucket just does not happen!

OK, you win, obviously trying seriously to raise the rent does not grab anybody as urgent, so we'll be collecting small change instead.

I really wonder if that is the right decision, but I'm clearly off the wavelength, so I'll just shut up.

The brainstorming for ideas should be carried out and the Trust do need to announce some formal plans as to what they're planning to raise this money.

In the meantime, the bucket collection is the option we've come up with on here, which is easy to organise and can be done quickly and easily. The money collected in the bucket may well be the money which takes us over the limit. Who knows?

At the moment though, it's a good start, and I'm sure the Trust board are very willing to hear for more money making ideas to help them achieve their target.

The reason we released the press statement was two fold:

1) To respond to Peter Simpson and to set a target to raise no matter how unrealistic. In an ideal world the Trust will not need to contribute anything to the rent.

2) To raise the profile of the trust and remind people what our purpose is.

What we all have to remember is that the Trust does not own or run the club and none of the board members or indeed the other supporters are kept "in the loop." We have not heard from Mr Deaner for some time and Roy will let us have any information he has in his own time. I personally would not read too much into work being carried on at WP. But who knows? Not any Slough supporter that is for sure.

There are two "big" fund raising events coming up. Firstly the sponsored walk in which half the proceeds go to the Trust with the other half going to Charity. Secondly, we have the race night on the 23rd April. Now if all Slough supporters get behind these events it is a real opportunity to raise lots of cash.

Has everyone picked up a Sponsorship form for the walkers? If each Slough supporter managed to persuade 10 friends/colleagues/relatives to sponsor the seven nutters who are walking to Worthing to see an entirely meaningless Ryman Premier League game we would be well on our way to raising significant amounts of money.

I agree with Martin and Andrew, we are totally out of the loop. We need to know from what base we are starting from. Do we know how much of the cup run(s) money the club has left ?

Any collection, will help the cause, however small the amount donated.

Maybe, as we are probably going to be changing our strip at the end of the season (Coldseal!), the players would like to donate their shirts for a raffle or an auction.

Just a thought.
