Hi,

Aaron Barnett has signed for my team(Hampton). I believe he was with you, is he any good?

Big, physical centre-back, good in the air and no slouch. He's only been with us for 4/5 weeks or so, previously with Bishops Stortford, I believe.

 

I felt that he needed to settle with a regular partner in the side but, for a variety of reasons, mainly to do with injuries to others, that didn't happen.

 

We've just signed Ben Lewis and Nick Burton over the last few weeks and I think that Aaron slipped down to fourth choice for one of the two centre-back slots. He needs to play and I would think that he would do very well at your level. Good luck to t'lad from me.

 

That will be 150 guineas plus VAT. My fee account is in the post.

I thought he (Barnett) was excellent but prone to the odd mistake which cost him his place. Good in the air and a 'presence' wherever he was, will do well for Hampton and good luck to him.

I wonder whether our expectations of new centre-backs is based upon the way Djoumin Sangare settled immediately into a partnership with Patrick Ada. That really was exceptional.

 

For me, Ben Lewis and Nick Burton have done well very well from the start. And I am a fan of Patrick, although he had a very bad day at the office last Saturday.

 

I wonder whether Aaron can consider himself 'unlucky' at the timing of his arrival with us and the limited opportunities he had, not least when Nathan Bunce was with us. Good luck to him, anyway.

Aaron was one of our outstanding players the year we (Gravesend) wonthe Ryman League - his partnership with Francis Duku was one of our strengths then. Should imagine he'd still be capable of doing a decent job for someone at Hampton's level.
