I'm the editor of a Stockport fanzine and in each issue we interview an opposing fan.

Our next issue is out for the FA Cup match and I'd be grateful if someone could spare the time to feature in it.

You can send responses to cheadleender@hotmail.com

Thanks

1) How have you been doing this season?

2) What do yo think about being drawn away to Stockport in the Cup?

3) What's your squad like, key players etc?

4) What's non-league football really like for the fans?

5) What's your manager like?

6) What's your chairman like?

7) Brief description of history? FA Cup matches?

8) Prediction for St Albans v County?

9) Who are your main rivals?

10) What's your ground like?

11) What are St Albans fans like? Numbers?

I must say that's not terribly welcoming. The chap is only trying to do his job. Remarkable resemblance to the editor of the Sutton match-day programme. I wonder if they are related?

Anyway, I was musing on the most appropriate person to guest in their fanzine. From his specimen questions, we need someone who is honest; outspoken; who will comment without fear or favour. A basic level of intelligence would help.

Hmmnnn. No-one springs to mind.

as no one else has - -

1] started season with 7 straight wins [ a club record] form has dipped a bit since but we are second in the league with a long way to go

2] We would have liked a home draw, but with 82 minutes gone at AFC Sudbury in the last round anyone would have accepted this tie

3] we have a strong and talented squad with a wide range of experience at both league and non league level , we are not showing this potential on the field at the moment, our key players? no give aways here!

4] non league football is a million miles from the glamour of the nationwide div 2 , the camaraderie amongst fans and players is generally a refreshing change from the overpaid whingers in the premiership, you also get to go to some interesting places on cold wet tuesday nights

5] Our manager is a pillar of the local society , a teetotal church goer who spends most of his spare time assisting the needy

6] A newcastle supporter by birth who came in to rescue the club at the twelth hour last February as the axe was about to fall on us. A champion bloke

7] Our history is comprehensively covered on www.sacfc.co.uk under history of club.

FA Cup? we once beat league opposition [brentford] in the 1920's, more recently 1st round replay defeats at Walsall away [68] and Torquay [80] lost at Bristol City [9 -2 ] in 96 .so could our year for an upset

8] my prediction? we equalise in the 99th minute and turn you over at home

9] Rivals? the much hated Stevenage, WOOOD[borehamwood] and Aldershot

10] our ground is located in a quiet conservation area, and until 1998 had an oak tree behind one goal on the terracing. it currently meets conference standards

11] Our fans? I will let EFM make their own comment , on the whole they demand quality football and success we appreciate skilful football but are often on the quiet side .

well thats my view

My turn:

1) Started off brilliantly with 7 straight wins, then in the eighth we only drew this was viewed as a massive dip in form and the team has been tinkled around with ever since - We have flattered to decieve for the last 10 games and are now looking quite average with the occasional return to that early season form.

2. Great day out, we will be drinking an awful lot. Good draw as in your a 2nd division team, cash wise a better supported club would've been better, progress wise a crappy non-leauge team at home, TV money wish a top of the table div 2 side at home, but we are pleased.

3. Good squad with over 1000 leauge apperances behind them, key players I'd say were all them former leauge players who's experinace we'll need to steady the ship if things wrong (or right). Another great player is Beckett Hollenbeach, a former USA U21 international who is very stangely playing for the reserves at present - one can only presume he's being saved for you.

4. It's OK and very depressing - OK in that you know everyone, you can switch ends, drink inside some grounds and annoy plenty of sad people and hitler stewards. Very depressing in the fact that we have to go to some god awful places in front of little crowds (every year for years). i think we just want conference football to cheer us up.

5. Our manager(s) on a whole are good blokes, always got time for the fans, they drink a lot and have been known to embaress themselves in drink related incidents, hmmmm enough said.

6. Well he saved us at the last moment last season when we were about to dissapear, tends to keep himself in the background as such and has done a great job in making the club more proffesinal in the way it's run. Tends to dislike some of the unruley element to the club.

7. Formed in 1908 - were very good in the 1920's, been stuck in this poxy leauge since then. No real FA Cup history no giantkilling since the 20's (Brentford) have played Torquay and Bristol City in last 20yrs. Were semi-finalists the Amatur Cup 3 times and more recently in the FA trophy in the 98/99 season. Leauge wise we've been considered one of the top ryman sides over the last 10 years we were runners up in 92/93 and have had about 3 stabs at the title since (normally finishing 7th though) this year looks like being our best leauge season for 10 years.

8. Hmmmmm well it's criminal that a club with our support and history (we are considered one of the bigger clubs outside the confrence despite never showing it on the pitch) have never performed a giantkilling act. We're due one and I get the impression that Stockport are worried about us, 1-0 to us maybe in a SKY televised replay.

9.Stevenage, Borehamwood, Aldershot. Certain sections of the support (i.e EFM) also hate Canvey, Kingstonian, Bedford, Hampton, Hendon, Aylesbury and many more (mainly the teams we've upset)

10. It's a great ground, it has character, but it's also very old.

11. Our fans are a mixture, from old boys to young boys with a healthy topping of girls and women. We seem to have picked up a good amount of teenagers who have turned thier backs on your Arsenals and Man U's, a hardcore 18-30 range most of them are attached to the name EFM (which stands for Englands First Martyr, who was St.Alban) we are the rowdy lot who tend to get the atmosphere going, we also are the ones who sometimes get into trouble mainly due to over excitement with no malice intended. Everyone else is obviously older and either join in on the outskirts of EFM or spend all there time moaning about us. Genrally most of our supporters could moan for England, we have a averahe home lot of about 600, I'd say 300 were hard-core and go to every game.

Enjoyed fqt and The Voice's info, but am especially glad to have the answer to the question I was too embarrassed to ask. England's First Martyr. Best guess in our household was English Football Maniacs.
