Part timers must go!!

Guest

Daish has been given grief over his alleged greed for wanting extra money to train part time players in the evenings. But if he's training the full timers during the day and the part timers in the evening how can this be any good for team play.

I think it's time to move the part-timers on and really go full time even if it means losing the likes of Jimmy. By the start of next season we must surely be a 100% full time team.

My opnion of Daish' mandate was that he would inherit a squad of part and full time players with the longer term aim to become a full time squad. Nobody knows if Daish asking for extra cash is true so we have to assume its a no until we're told otherwise. If i remember correctly Daish took the job without even discussing a contract in the first place. What we dont want to see is Daish alienating the part time players and trying to offload them because he doesnt work with them on a daily basis. None of us, would've guessed that after 24 games of the season we would be playing with so many professionals in the starting X1 and with dwindling support/interest we have to be careful as to how we utilise our resources. Pretty obvious stuff i know.

Good call, Jimmy. Let's get rid of Jacko, Skins, Provs, Jay & Macca at the end of the season as well. These guys are the heart & soul of the club. Who would replace them? More dross loan players!!

So what if the full timers have to train under lights twice a week?

If you rip out the heart of the club you will face dwindling crowds and a potential relegation battle. The new players won't care. they will serve out their one year contract then move on.

Ok - but by heading towards full time status isn't the club telling them that there days are numbered anyway??

If I was them I would be lining up a new club for next season unless full time was an option at the Fleet.

Proths is the ebst dead-call player in the team. Skins, Macca, Jacko, Jay and Proths are probably, if not definately, the most committed players in our squad. Andy Drury, with the right help, is going to be one of the best talents in non-league football, and Jay Saunders is the heartbeat of midfield and the club's top goalscorer last season! Why get rid of such good, determined players for sake of mediocre full-time players who see the Fleet as just another club??

This comes back to the observation that when you're one of the best part-time teams in the country you can attract the best part-time players, but switching to full-time status means you will, in theory, attract the worst full-time players.

Of course, the signings of Charlie, Ross and Bobby show this doesn't have to be the case exclusively, but it can become an issue when trying to construct a 100% full-time side. And as Matt rightly suggests, it's only natural for fans to be concerned about whether the club's financial resources can cover the cost of 100% full-time status adequately.

A big problem is that, what with the inconvenience of the fact that not every player is at each training session, the percentage of full-timers in the squad will rise and rise in the quest to become totally full-time. However, the key part-timers we currently have, assuming they remain worthy of a first-team place, should be allowed to stay for as long as this is the case, without any pressure to reach total full-time status at breakneck speed.

Who to retain or not, should be decided on a player by player basis. The players should be considered individually for their benefit to the team and not simply because they fall into a particular category ie full-time or part-time. Some of our best players are part-timers. It would be a sad day for G&NFC if any other selection process was adopted. As FF stated if "shift work" has to be introduced for players to train then so be it.

As an aside, I believe at least some of the part-time players actually train *all* day Friday at Beauwaters with many of the Full-time players.

Of course, some part-timers may only be able to make evening sessions but I know of at least 1 that attends the Friday session during the day.

He does this at his own expense since he could earn more money on a Friday from his full-time profession rather than attending a Friday training session.

Therefore, I dont think letting the part time players go would be a wise move by the Club, especially when they are showing this kind of commitment.

Totally agree with you Kshep. And apologies to Jimmy, my swipe was at Fleet of foot, not yourself.freudian slip I'm afraid.

Fair enough gary. To be honest my original post was a bit tongue in cheek and the loyalty we all seem to feel to the part timers is what I think the club the size of the fleet really needs.

It just worries me that in the push to better and greater things the club might lose sight of what local non-league football is really all about.

We are the Fleet and not another Chelski!!!!

Always rememnber MAIDSTONE.

No probs, FOF, trust Brian Kilcullen.. Slow and sure hasn't served us badly in the past. I'm sure our transition to complete f/T will happen within a couple of years, and realistically, players like Macca, Skins provs are all 30 or more and would expect to only play at this level for a couple more seasons. Only then should we even think of replacing them.

Nobody trains all day on Fridays. There is training on Friday mornings for all of the full-time players and as many part-time players as can make themselves available.

The part time players were given a pay rise on the understanding that if they were available on Friday mornings then they would come in for training.

There is no intention of getting rid of any players just because they are part time. In fact the who;e of the club's training routine has been built around the part-time players, to some extent to the detriment of the full-timers, who *have* to make themselves available for evening training. This is just another myth that needs putting to bed along with the nonsense that Liam asked for a pay rise to conduct evening training. He didn't!
