players transfer listed

Yes I agree with you Gazza, a terrible knee-jerk reaction. Why can't Gary Calder 1) Stick with a settled squad 2) try and bring the best out in his team instead of just getting rid of players when they have a few bad games. The Richard Graham situation also makes a complete mockery of the decision to sell Joe Baker

I agree with you both.

Its a pity we don't have a transfer window at this level, might stop the scatter gun approach to buying/selling players and leave us with a settled squad.

How many players has Gary Calder signed and released since he has joined us? (I'm guessing Simon might have the answer to this one)

I feel that we give the oppo too much respect. Friday's game was a good example. We should've stuck with the winger system we have been playing all season and hit Purfleet where it hurts 'em most...on the wings but hey ho, I'm not the manager and therefore that is just an opinion.

So (and lets get to the point), to transfer Richard Graham (who is a good player) is, in my opinion, silly.

The same applies to Fewings. He is a decent striker (as his record shows for OTHER clubs) so why has he just become a bad player? Can't be that he is now playing for us, can it?

Or is this a cunning plan by GC to put a bit of spark into the players (like last season...)

Yep, agree with you all on this one.

What a joke. Getting rid of Richard Graham makes the Joe Baker decision even more baffling. And to bomb out Fewings and only leave us with Roy, DJ & Wallace must be a bit of a joke too.

But, if memory serves me right GC has had players on the transfer list for months on end before without actually selling them. Wasnt Willo on the list at 1 stage???

I'm not suprised by any of GC's decisions anymore. I just found it all increasingly amusing.

Is this Groundhog day - or season? Poor performances, out of the FA cup and now transfer listings (which I don't think is the answer - do we need the money now we are out of the cup?). It's all a little too familiar.

Now all we need is to get drawn against a team in a FA competition that we've already played.........oh!!

Richard Graham is the strange one for me, I can sort of understand why Dave McD and Paul are on the list - neither would be in my 1st XI at the moment, and it's not much use having fringe players who struggle to stay fit. Richard Graham has been one of the more creative players for us this season, it definately gave us a lift for the final 20 minutes on Friday when he came on. One thing though, it's good news for Gary Henty.......

Simon, where do you come from. Paul Fewings in one of the better players we have. It isn't his fault that he isn't match fit. We all knew Roy wasn't going to available for the FA caup game due to his three match ban and still GC didn't give him a chance to get there.

Being fit is one thing but you need a run out in the middle of the park to hone you fitness in and get sharp. What games did GC give him even a 20 minute run out before our FA Cup game? And then everyone gets on his back because he is un fit and not sharp on the day. Jamie has had more of a chance than he has and it shows. But no disrespect to Jamie, in my opinion, Fewings is a better player. I wouldn't get rid of Jamie, before anyone has a go, and yes he is the only striker who has scored in the past two games but Fewings record for other clubs speaks for itself.

Don't get me wrong, I think he's an excellent player but if he's not going to be a regular starter - and at the moment I would go with Roy and DJ if everyone was fit - he needs to be fit for when he is available. He's only managed to play a full 90 minutes once this season so far. Last season he only started 24 games out of 42 (20 for Chesham, 4 on loan at Hendon) which could suggest injury problems?

What do you take me for, some kind of sad statto? <img src="/forums/images/icons/wink.gif" alt="" />

Don't have the figures to hand, but I reckon generally there tends to be a core 10 players in the squad (last season 11 players started more than 20 league games for us) with others coming and going. Last season 30 players started league games for us, however I think you have to take into account there was a big end of season clear out last season with 6 of those players making 3 or less starts! As a comparison champions Gravesend had 13 players making 20 or more league starts, with 26 players making starts in total. Harrow used the most players with over 40 players making starts in their campaign to finish 1 above the drop....

this gets worse and worse!

I'm assuming that those involved with the day to day running of the club read this forum, so why do they never take note of the people that keep this club going.

My message to Calder, you have lost it. If the purpose of releasing these players is to give the team the usual kick up the bum it isnt going to work. the players must be petrified to see two players leave that never got in the team, and are seriously going to question their managers judgement by letting a player go that will be snapped up by a top half of the table side.

So can we expect replacements? there wasnt a damn thing wrong with anyone of these players, Fewings never got a chance to prove himself and you just know that he is going to come back and haunt Calder. Fewings or wallace? didnt we do well. henty of graham? mastermind.

Calder - there had better be some method behind this madness, cos if there isnt you are losing so much respect everytime the team step out.

I hope Richard Graham gets cheered each and everytime he gets the ball tom night (if he isnt already gone or dropped), he deserves it, and lets sit back knowing Jamie is going to need 6 chances, tread on the ball 5 times, before he scores, all the time wondering if Fewings was any good.

Have questions not got to be asked of a manager that tells us he has assembled a league winning team only to see some of them leave the club before xmas?

If you read the piece in the Echo it implies that the three players have been transferred due to one poor performance against Havant & W and that none of them will play for the club again. Seems a bit harsh what if we get injuries (or suspensions) who is going to play? Have we got replacements lined up yet. It is a bit difficult to understand whether this is just a shock tactic or the players will not play again.

I know that Jamie scored a good goal on Friday but I thought that Fewings might have been a better option as neither DJ or Jamie can hold the ball up very well (something which Paul is excellent at) and subsequently Purfleet cleared easily each time.

Haven't read the article, but if that's a fair summation then what about the central midfield players that to a man went AWOL at Havant? Dave McDonald was stupid to get himself sent off, but Paul Fewings looked like a player playing his first game for 3 weeks - ie rusty, and for me R.Graham was one of our better players there.

I can understand Dave McDonald. Paul Fewings, I can half understand. In my opinion an excellent player that has been hampered by injury and a lack of a decent run in the team. For my money, a fit Fewings is a better player than Essendoh. Unfortunately for Paul, he's always going to be behind DJ and Roy and I think that he's the sort of player that needs games to keep himself fit rather than collecting moss on the bench. As for Richard Graham. Well I'm gobsmacked. As far as I see it we have only 3 creative players in the side, the sort that can create something from nothing. They are Mark Graham, DJ Campbell and Rich. Take Richard Graham away and Stevenage recall DJ, then the words creek and paddle come to mind!
