Tamworth 1 City 0

Recommended Posts

Really disapointed - I really thought we had a chance of going a long way in the trophy.

First half wasn't too bad city were playing some nice football at times and though chances were few city always looked like they might score. Unfortunately the lambs nicked one instead.

Second half city didn't seem half so convincing - Tamworth robustness at the back was just too strong and with city pushing forward there was always a chance that Tamworth might get another.

The right at the end Scott Cousins was stretchered off - hope it's nothing too serious - however I fear the worse (broken leg ?)

From what I can make out, Scott Cousins has a broken ankle and it is indeed very serious. We are all awaiting further news.

As for the game, I felt that a lot of our players sold themselves very short today. We can do a lot better than this. We did ok in the first half and had more than our fair share of the play but failed to penetrate, where it counted, in the final third. We also gave away a poor goal. In the second half, Tamworth seemed stronger, a lot quicker to the ball and we were generally second best. I can't remember us putting a serious shot on goal. Davis and Bastock had excellent games but Hann was shackled superbly by Anaclet. Great travelling support from the Saints fans, between 200 and 250 attending.

All in all, a disappointing game but of far greater concern to all Saints fans was the dreadful injury to Scott Cousins in the dying seconds of the game. Let us hope that Scott makes a full recovery, however long that may take.

I thought Tamworth did well to stop us playing our usual style of football. Too often did we resort to playing the long ball - something we can't do when the defenders are about 2 foot taller, and built like brick-sh1thouses. We just struggled to make any chances, and Tamorth were just too strong for us. Wouldn't like to be a Tamworth fan though - watching that cr@p week-in-week-out. Nevermind - bring on Bognor!

The Tamworth manager had clearly done his homework, puting Anaclet - my overall MotM - on Matt Hann. Our squad is very thin and that was exposed on Saturday. Colin had no options beyond the starting eleven.

I still think that the biggest problem was that, for the first time for a long while, we just didn't play on Saturday. As Zag says, bring on the Bognor!

Probably a very obvious statement to make but a good side does not turn into a bad one overnight, even if we are not yet the finished article. This side will get better and better, of that I am certain.

In some ways, Saturday was a little bit of a reality check, which, in the long run, can work to our advantage.

Roll on Saturday. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/top.gif" alt="" />
